We hope that everyone has had a restful and enjoyable holiday break and we are looking forward to a very busy and wonderful Term Four!
👒SUNSMART
We would like to remind you that ALL students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September, when UV levels are typically higher. Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.
🌳UPCOMING EVENTS
The Grade One and Two teachers are busily trying to finalise the details for our two camp experiences that take place this term. We hope to have dates, details and costs out to families soon!
CURRICULUM
📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics
Students will complete two UFLI sessions this week (4 lessons and an assessment).
Grade One Students will continue to learn about ending spelling patterns focusing -le on the end of the words and then a review lesson.
Students will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will learn the following heart words: people
What can you do at home?
-Assist your child to read their 'take home' book each night
-Help your child learn to read and spell their Heart Words

Wednesday & Thursday learning: review
Grade Two Students will continue to learn about different vowel teams focusing on au, aw and augh saying /or/ and the uncommon sounds of ea and a.
Students will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will learn the following heart word: hour, minute, Monday and Wednesday.
What can you do at home?
-Assist your child to read their 'take home' book each night
-Help your child learn to read and spell their Heart Words

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing
The mentor text is The Most Magnificant Thing by Ashley Spires. Students will use this text to form the basis of their literary responses such as learning new vocabulary in the text, comparing the character in the text to Ada Twist and sequencing the story.
What can you do at home?
-Encourage retelling of your child's take home book. What were the main events? Can you place the events in order?
🔢 Maths
Students will begin looking at Time, initially by exploring vocabulary to do with time, and sequencing events within a day .
What can you do at home?
-Discuss events you are doing at home eg : On Saturday we need to go to basketball. What day do we do the shopping? What day was it yesterday?
🌏 CBL - Curiosity
Our Term Four Big Idea is Curiosity. Our learning will have a science base to develop students curiosity of their world. Students will be working on the first question guiding our learning 'What is curiosity?"
Students will also be busy working on completing our 'Respect' mural which we began last term. We are looking forward to sharing this with our families when we are finished!
