Optional UFLI Home Practice page (refer to the email for more information):

Monday & Tuesday learning: -ing

Wednesday & Thursday learning: syllables

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing

The mentor text is a variety of information texts about frogs. We have chosen frogs to connect to our learning in biological sciences in CBL.Students will use these texts to form the basis of their literary responses, such as making text to text connections and completing a non fiction 'can, have, are' chart.

They will also revise the conventions of sentence writing, such as writing a complete thought that has a capital letter at the start and boundary punctuation at the end (ie. full stop, question mark, exclamation mark).

What can you do at home?

-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home

-Provide authentic opportunities for your child to write at home eg. writing birthday cards, shopping lists and keeping score in games.

🔢  Maths

Students will explore the measurement concept of capacity by playing with different materials to fill, and empty, objects. They will look at informal ways of recording an objects' capacity and ordering the capacity of different sized objects. They will make connections to the concept of volume, by noticing if the object is full, half full or empty.

Mathematical vocabulary used: full, half full, equal, same, amount, measure, container, estimate, fill up, tip out

What can you do at home?

-Practise writing numbers at home, ensuring that numbers are not reversed!

🌏 CBL - Curiosity

This term, we are exploring the Big Idea of 'Curiosity' using the following prompts:

Guiding Questions:

What is curiosity?

What helps living things grow and survive? (Biological Science)

What causes things to change in the world? (Chemical Science)

What changes do we see in the Earth? (Earth and Space)

Essential Questions:

Why do you need to be curious?

How does curiosity help me learn about the world?

Challenge:

Be a curious scientist and share your discovery!

This week, we will be coming together as a Prep community to create wonderings and watch a proposal movie. We also will begin our 'Curious Scientist' rotations to explore biological, chemical and earth / space sciences. Students will work in mixed prep groups, with the Prep teachers, to explore all of these areas each week.

In each rotation, students will explore the following concepts this week:

Biological Science: Frog life cycles and habitats

Chemical Science: Making a frog bog with bi-carb and vinegar

Earth / Space Science: Exploring the solar system
