Kinder visit

This week we had about 45 kinder children from St.Linus Kindergarten come and visit us across two days. Our current Prep children were really excited to have special visitors spend time with us. We made Hungry Caterpillar crowns together as well as have some fun in the playground. Well done to our Prep children who were great helpers and good role models to the kinder kiddies. Makes us proud as teachers to see how far our wonderful children have come since they began school 10 months ago.

Reading

This time of the year is amazing as we see huge progress in reading. We are very proud of our students as they are showing great decoding and sounding out strategies during reading. This a credit to all the parents that support their children with their consistent nightly reading. Please make time every night for your children to read to you. Don't forget to write the name of the books they read in their yellow record booklets. Remember that we change and send home new books on a Monday. Well done to everyone!

Writing

This term we are continuing to focus on 'recount' writing. We have also introduced 'narrative' writing where the children have to use their imagination and  their knowledge of words and sounds to write stories.  They are learning about characters, settings, story problem and endings. Wow! They are impressing us with how well they can write and draw pictures to reflect their writing. We are beginning to 'edit' our writing by fixing our own mistakes. Keep going Preps!

Maths

We have started off the term with focusing on addition and subtraction hands on activities. Surprisingly, the students have really shown their great understanding of these 'tricky' concepts by completing amazing work. They are able to understand these concepts by drawing pictures, using materials and writing the number stories as well. Fantastic work grade preps!

Discovery

This term we are focusing on 'Under the Sea' during Discovery. In class and at the Discovery centre, we are looking at everything that interests the Preps realated to the ocean/sea. We have preps making ships and submarines. We are decorating lots of differenty types of fish and learning about them at the same time. We have students already making under the sea dioramas and other related crafts. Lastly, we are singing different songs about water and the ocean. Lots of learning! Lots of fun!
