Year Six
Melbourne Museum
Written by Hope (6MP) and Megan (6JK)
If you didn't know already, the Year Sixes are getting ready for Exhibition this year. This year we are doing science. On Monday, we went to the Melbourne Museum to help us design our exhibits and we saw lots of cool things. In the museum we went to the forest gallery which felt like we were in a jungle. It had really cool birds, fish and turtles but the spider was the scariest animal.
A favourite was the Melbourne story exhibit. We got to see the history of Melbourne through old clothes, animals and movies that were in black and white. We went in the old house which had old beds, old toilets and small rooms. It was interesting to see how Melbourne has changed over the years, especially the old footy jerseys!
At the dinosaur walk we saw many dinosaur bones and eggs. There was information that we could read and watch about how they lived during the times they lived. There was a person who told us facts about the triceratops, like a triceratops' head weighs about two tons which is 2000 kilograms.
Exhibition is in Week Four on the 31st of October on a Thursday. It will be open from 9:45am - 10:45am, 11:15am - 1:15pm and 3pm - 5pm. We hope to see you then!
Guest Speakers
We had guest speakers last Friday. Ms Westcott spoke to us about her experiences as a museum curator. She taught us how to engage our audience during exhibition, by having lots of things that our audience can see and touch. Sam Higgins (ENPS parent) came in to speak to us about her job as a forensic scientist. She taught us about the bio bank, Ned Kelly’s DNA and using science to solve crimes. Thank you both so much for helping us understand more about science.
