School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Update
This year at Essendon North Primary School, we’ve introduced a new School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Matrix based on our core values of being safe, kind, and respectful. Our SWPBS matrix outlines the specific behaviours that reflect these values in different parts of the school and during all school activities. It ensures that students receive clear, consistent instruction on what it means to put these values into practice. Every staff member actively teaches and reinforces these behaviours, making them central to our school culture.
Each week, we focus on a new behaviour from the matrix, helping students apply our values in different situations. This term, we’ll highlight a variety of positive behaviours, which are shared below.
Week | Value | Setting | Behaviour |
---|---|---|---|
Week 1 | Respectful | During learning time | We actively engage in learning tasks and do our best |
Week 2 | Safe | During learning time | We keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves |
Week 3 | Kind | During learning time | We value everyone's ideas and opinions |
Week 4 | Respectful | During break time | We use music time to get ourselves ready for class |
Week 5 | Safe | During break time | We seek help from yard duty teachers |
Week 6 | Kind | During break time | We solve problems while they are small |
Week 7 | Respectful | During learning time | We speak at an appropriate volume and tone |
Week 8 | Safe | During learning time | We use equipment and resources for its intended purpose |
Week 9 | Kind | During learning time | We help others |
Week 10 | Respectful | During break time | We listen to all teachers on duty |
Our next step is to clearly define unexpected behaviours and ensure consistent responses to them. This will help ensure that both positive and unexpected behaviours are communicated, understood, and addressed in a fair and consistent way across the school.
We encourage you to check in with your child, talk about their learning, and reflect together on how they are practising these positive behaviours.
Thank you for your support!
