Morning circle time activities
Monday – Kindness to Our Community Pledge: Ask students to make a pledge by finishing the sentence: “This week, I will be kind to our community by…” Write the pledges on a class poster as a visual reminder.
Tuesday - What is a Clean Environment? Discuss with students what a clean environment looks like and why it’s important. Ask them to share one thing they can do to help keep our environment clean (e.g. picking up rubbish, turning off lights when not needed etc.)
Thursday - Waste Sorting Challenge: Bring in some clean waste items (e.g., paper, plastic bottle, food wrapper). Hold a quick sorting challenge where students decide which items go into recycling, compost, or landfill. This can be done verbally or with pictures. Friday - Nature Appreciation: Have students close their eyes and imagine a place in nature that makes them feel calm and safe. Then, ask them to describe what they pictured. Discuss how keeping these places clean is part of their right to a safe environment.
Lunchtime Activities (4 days): These activities will be led by our student leaders and take place during lunch breaks.
Monday – School Pride Club: during lunch students are encouraged to assist the student leaders in cleaning our environment – rubbish bags provided and/or gardening tools e.g. brooms, rakes etc.
Tuesday - Nature Scavenger Hunt: Students can explore the school grounds with a list of items to find (e.g. a leaf, a piece of bark, a flower). This helps them connect with nature and appreciate their clean environment.
Thursday - Art from the Earth: Students can use natural materials like leaves, twigs, and stones to create artwork on the ground. This activity promotes creativity while using materials that are part of our environment. Art Captains will be running this activity from Chaucer Street.
Friday - Environment-Themed Storytime: Student leaders will read books or stories that focus on caring for the earth and its resources.
