Physical Education lessons in Term 1 and 2
Here is an overview of the things students will be learning in PE over the next 2 terms.
Prep
Students worked on developing their basic motor skills and basic movement patterns. They practised and developed the locomotor skills of: running, jumping, hopping and skipping. Students practised and developed the object control skills of: rolling, catching and underarm throwing. Whilst participating in movement and physical activities involving these skills, students were encouraged to follow rules and procedures and share equipment and space safely.
Year 1 and 2
Students focused on further developing their basic fundamental motor skills and more complex skills. Students developed their running, jumping, landing, hopping and throwing skills by completing various fundamental motor skills and athletic events. They showed their organisational and independent working skills through completing tasks in small groups. By using a variety of balls and modified invasion games students continued to develop their throwing, catching and bouncing skills. They displayed their teamwork and cooperation skills through small sided games whilst utilising equipment and space safely.
Year 3 and 4
Students focused on developing their basic motor skills through their involvement in various games. During striking and fielding students developed their throwing, catching and hitting skills. Through invasion games students developed their passing, receiving, kicking, dribbling and punting skills. Students participated in the basic, modified games of cricket, tee-ball, netball, basketball, soccer, tag rugby and AFL football. Throughout these modified games they focused on developing a broad range of complex motor skills and started to use basic game tactics. Students worked in small teams and groups to achieve goals in cooperative and competitive situations. They explored the concept of fair play and the importance of respecting the roles of game officials.
Year 5 and 6
Students focused on further refining basic and complex motor skills through their involvement in various games. During striking and fielding Games, students developed their throwing, catching, bowling, batting and fielding skills. They showed their tactical awareness and decision-making skills in games, such as: cricket, tee-ball and softball. Throughout the Invasion Games unit, students practised their passing, dribbling, kicking and punting skills. Students developed their understanding of concepts, such as: pass and move and utilisation of space. They showed their teamwork and cooperation skills through small and full sided games whilst respecting the opposition and officials.
Play Club
Play Club will be running again this year at Resurrection, but we are in desperate need of more materials and equipment for the children to play with. In Play and build club we see lots of children in Years 1 and 2 come to use the natural and loose play equipment we have on offer. Our Mud kitchens are getting quite run down now as we have nowhere to protect them from the weather. If you know of anything that will help with this, or have any more we can use, please let us know.
Play Club is a place where children can build, imagine and PLAY. There are no instructions or teaching going on and no rules (accept for our RESKEYS of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience). It is a place for the children to create, build, play imaginatively and just be themselves! Studies have shown that play builds key aspects of children's brain development as well as being a healthy lifestyle activity, it also grows confidence in young people as well as helps connects individuals and communities.
If you have any great equipment which can be used for the children to play with at our club please bring it in to reception. Below is a list of recommended items (please, nothing that can break easily):
Planks of wood
Sturdy crates
Stainless steel pots, pans and utensils
Plastic cups, bowls, plates and utensils
Rope
Ground sheets
Thick pipes
Unbroken pipes
Buckets and spades
Baking trays
Kitchen untensils
