ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

LUNAR NEW YEAR

On Wednesday, we celebrated the Lunar New Year with a dragon dance. It was wonderful to have our Cultural Leaders welcome everyone to our assembly and introduce our dancers. Thank you to Wendy Yu for their work in preparing the students and organising the event. It was a wonderful celebration and a great way to start the school year. Happy Lunar New Year to all our families who are celebrating. We wish you success, happiness and prosperity this year.

COMMUNITY PICNIC

Our community picnic on Thursday afternoon was a wonderful opportunity for families, students, and staff to come together in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Parents and students enjoyed time outdoors while sharing refreshments, including sausages prepared on the grill. Teachers also valued the chance to connect with students and families beyond the classroom environment, strengthening relationships across our school community.

At Milgate Primary School, we value occasions such as these, which foster a strong sense of belonging and partnership. We sincerely appreciate the support of our families and staff in making community events like this possible.

Sincere thanks are also extended to the staff from Team Kids who tirelessly painted faces for the duration of our picnic!

YEAR 6 MILGATE CITY MARATHON

As part of their Who we are unit of inquiry, the Year 6's spent the first few weeks of term preparing for Milgate City Marathon. Students were given a melways and locations with allocated points and collaborated in small groups to plan a route around the city to gain the most points. Today, students visited locations such as MCG, the clocks at Flinders, Sealife Aquarium and Melbourne Zoo. It was wonderful to see everyone working together and to achieve a successful day in the city!

YEAR 1 INCURSION - POLICE

This week, we began our new inquiry ‘How we organise ourselves’. Exploring different roles and responsibilities within our community.

On Thursday, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Victoria Police! They explained to us their role within the community. They spoke about what their day looks like and all the different ways they can help us. We learnt that they have police horses, jet skis, boats, dogs and even helicopters. They shared all of the resources and tools they have to help them keep the community safe. We even had the opportunity to wear the heavy police vest, look at their car and even put on the lights and sirens. A massive thank you to Charlotte.B  for bringing her dad Rich in, to share this wonderful experience with all the Year 1 students.

Staff Professional Development | Berry Street

Last Friday’s Curriculum Day saw our staff take part in the first professional learning session of the Berry Street Education Model, focusing on the Body domain. This session explored how physiological regulation, movement, and predictable routines support students to feel calm, safe, and ready to learn. Staff engaged in practical strategies to help students recognise their body’s stress responses and build simple regulation techniques that can be used in the classroom every day. We look forward to continuing this learning journey together as we strengthen our whole-school approach to

supporting student wellbeing and engagement.

Period Products Program

All Victorian public schools have access to the Free Period Products program.

At our school, products are located in the Manuka Building and First Aid.

To support this program, our school will give senior school students information about menstruation and safe usage of pads and tampons.

Information on these websites may help you talk about menstrual health and hygiene at home:

If you have any questions, please speak to your child/rens classroom teacher or visit vic.gov.au/free-period-products-all-government-schools

GARDEN CLUB - Volunteers

We are very excited to share that Zoe from Bunnings will once again be generously donating her time to facilitate a planting session with our children. She will be joining us this Monday, 2nd March, from 1:00–1:30pm.

Garden Club is always incredibly popular, and the children gain so much from these hands-on experiences. To ensure the session runs smoothly and safely, we are in urgent need of a few volunteers to assist with supervising the children.

No gardening experience is necessary — just a little time and a giving heart!

If you are available to help on Monday, please let us know as soon as possible. We’d love to have you there. Your support makes a wonderful difference to our programs.

Alternatively, if you would like to volunteer but cannot make it this Monday, please feel free to complete the form via the QR code or link: https://forms.gle/JrJaH1BjYLz5eLmr7 .

Thank you in advance for your continued support.
