Prep News

Hello Prep Families,

Week 6 has flown by. I hope you all enjoy the long weekend ahead. The students have been working very hard and deserve a well-earned break.

Little Learners Love Literacy

We have officially finished Stage 1 of Little Learners Love Literacy. This week we revised all the sounds we have learnt so far: /m/, /a/, /t/, /f/, /s/ (and the /z/ sound that s sometimes makes), /k/ and /i/.

This means we can now read 40 or more real words using just these sounds. I encourage you to practise the sounds we have learnt with your child at home to help build their confidence with both reading and writing.

Maths

This week we learnt about ten frames, which are helpful tools for quickly recognising numbers up to 10. We rolled ten-sided dice to decide a number and created colour patterns using blocks and counters.

Inquiry

This week, we created invitations for our buddies to attend our Teddy Bear Picnic. More information about this will be shared soon. We discussed why people use invitations and what information a good invitation needs to include. We also practised handing them to our buddies in preparation for our buddy session.

Buddies

Our buddies came to our classroom and read with us this week. It was lots of fun. We handed our invitations to them, and they all accepted! We are very excited for our picnic.

Friendly reminders

  • Make sure your child’s name is on every piece of clothing so items can be returned to the rightful owner.

  • Fill in your child’s reader each night with the decodable book that was read. This helps me keep track of student progress.

  • Readers and homework are due on Fridays.

Your support at home makes a big difference to your child’s learning, thank you!

Warm regards,

Felicity Jenkins
