NAPLAN 2026 – Year 3 & 5 Students
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment that students in Years 3 and 5 at our school participate in each year. It is the only national assessment undertaken by all Australian students.
NAPLAN assesses the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy. It is just one part of our school’s broader assessment and reporting process. While it does not replace ongoing classroom assessments made by teachers, it provides valuable additional information about students’ educational progress.
This year, the NAPLAN test window begins on Wednesday, 11 March 2026 and concludes on Monday, 23 March 2026.
Our teachers will work with parents/carers and students to identify, on a case-by-case basis, any reasonable adjustments required to support individual students to access NAPLAN.
If parents or carers decide that they do not want their child to participate in one or more NAPLAN tests, we are required to process a formal withdrawal using the official forms. This means please instruct your child’s class teacher no later than MONDAY 2 MARCH. A record of all student withdrawals must be maintained by the school. Please discuss this with your child’s classroom teacher to organise an official withdrawal form.
Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is simply a part of their school program and encouraging them to do their best. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the test formats and will provide appropriate preparation and guidance.
St. Francis of the Fields will use the results of NAPLAN to identify strengths and areas of need to improve teaching programs, and to set goals in Literacy and Numeracy.
If you have any concerns regarding NAPLAN, please discuss these with your child’s classroom teacher prior to Monday 2 March.
Further information will be provided to Year 3 and Year 5 families in the coming weeks.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone.
Regards,
Grace Scalora
Deputy Principal – Leader of Learning and Teaching.
