Celebrating our 3rd star!

ResourceSmart Schools sustainability certification is all about our school demonstrating continuous improvement against the baseline we set in the areas of biodiversity, energy, waste and water. It aims to help our school integrate sustainability into our planning and strategic processes and develop ways to improve resource management, embedding sustainability practices into the school operations, teaching, learning and community engagement. St Finbar's was awarded our 3rd star late last year.

Well done to all the students and teachers working towards making our school a more sustainable learning and working space!

1 Star is the beginning of your school’s sustainability journey. It involves planning, building the foundations and getting the school community on board. Your school awakens to the idea of sustainability and resource management as a focal point in your day-to-day operations and future planning.

Schools gather and upload initial data to this website, setting a baseline against which to measure future progress. Schools evaluate their sustainability curriculum and actions and develop a vision, a plan and systems to support their sustainability journey.

2 Stars is about discovering how to address sustainability issues, what’s around you and who might be able to help you on your journey. You will explore your school’s local habitat and how to reduce your resource use. Students are invited to take on leadership roles to investigate and explore sustainability issues.

3 Stars is about engaging the whole school community and changing day-to-day behaviours, while also working on a long-term action plan. The school continues to look for new ways to improve and transform its sustainability profile.

4 Stars is about embedding sustainability into your teaching and school operations, demonstrating leadership in sustainability and implementing actions to improve biodiversity and reduce resource use. You will look to sustain your environmental performance and continually monitor and review your school’s systems. Your school community will become a steward of its environment, habitat and community.
