Beginning of Lent
We begin the sacred season of Lent in the Catholic Church and at school this week. We are reminded that this is a special time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving for many people. Lent invites us to pause, reflect and grow closer to God by showing kindness, compassion and forgiveness to others. It is a time for each of us to think about how we can make positive choices and follow the example of Jesus in our everyday lives. Throughout this season, our students will be encouraged to live out our school values by caring for those in need and supporting one another.
On Tuesday morning, we enjoyed our annual Pancake Breakfast as we marked Shrove Tuesday. Thank you to all our wonderful parent representatives for their support in preparing and serving the pancakes. Your generosity and time are greatly appreciated by our whole school community.
On Wednesday the school community joined parishioners for an Ash Wednesday Mass. A particularly special occasion as it was the first whole school Mass attended by our Prep students and it was lovely to gather together as a school community to celebrate Ash Wednesday and begin the Lenten journey united in faith. Thank you to Miss Mackinnon and 4M for all their work decorating the church and doing all the readings at Mass.
Gospel Reflection - Sunday 22nd of February
First Sunday in Lent
Gospel Reading
Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus fasts for 40 days in the desert and is tempted.
❤️Family Connection
As we celebrate the First Sunday of Lent, we reflect on the Gospel from Gospel of Matthew 4:1-11. In this reading, Jesus spends time in the desert and is tested, yet he remains faithful and strong. When challenged, Jesus responds by drawing on the words of Scripture. His deep knowledge of God’s Word guides him and gives him strength.
📅Family Activity
Sit together for a minute and discuss what Lent means to your family. You may like to read Sunday's gospel and sit together to come up with one special intention or sacrifice you're going to make during each week of lent. This could include, gving up your favourite sweet treat in the first week or making a donation to a local charity in the second week etc.
If you have a prayer space in your house, we recommend decorating it in the colour purple as purple is also used in the church to represent the Lenten season.
🙏Pray Together as a Family
Loving God,
Thank you for the gift of your Word.
Help us to listen to you, trust in you,
and make choices that reflect your love.
May our family grow closer to you this Lent.
Amen.
May God bless,
Laura Zeeng
