A note from Mr Jackson

Parent Teacher Interviews
Wednesday 11 February
A special thanks to teachers and parents who participated in the Parent Teacher meetings on Wednesday afternoon and early evening. While the meetings were necessarily brief, in the meetings I visited, teachers and parents both focussed on improving student wellbeing and learning. Such collaboration lies at the heart of student achievement and growth.
In term three, students will join the learning reflection in a Parent-Teacher-Student Three Way Conference.
School Council Meeting
Monday 9 February
School Council met on Monday evening. The Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) was presented exploring the important foci for the coming year. The focus on refining the Rosanna Primary Instructional Teaching and Learning Model, along with consolidating collaborative planning routines and supports for teachers were important strategies to improve student outcomes. Student Voice will be enhanced by supporting the Junior School Council to explore strategies that promote student engagement. A new Wellbeing Leadership Team will be established to support students requiring support. This team includes the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, the School Wide Positive Behaviour Leader, the Disability Inclusion leader as well as the Principal and Assistant Principal. An ongoing reflection on data to shape learning and wellbeing decisions will continue and the introduction of some parent workshops will be supported.
A review of recent facilities upgrades was discussed. Already shared in previous newsletters, this week has seen the carpeting of Room 1 where 1W are learning and the corridor at the northern end of the admin building.
The elections of School Council members for 2026 was discussed and it was noted that the call for nominations for the new School Council was made on Monday. The Council noted that the final date for nominations was Friday 6 March.
The Promotions Sub Committee shared the recent work on an updated school website. We are grateful for the significant effort in renewing the site by members of our local community. It has taken place over some time and we look forward to announcing it live in the coming days.
A letter from a parent noted their local traffic concern and proved an important discussion point. They had witnessed on several occasions, drivers failing to slow and give way as they travelled along Bellevue Ave and crossed Davies St. Of particular note, was the obscured Give Way signage. The meeting was grateful that the parent had raised their concern with Banyule Council and shared their correspondence. Banyule Council has in turn made some signage changes to the intersection. School Council encourages all who witness such dangerous driving to report incidents to Council and the police.
Student Leadership Presentation
9:10am Friday 13 February
All are invited to stay for the Student Leadership Ceremony on Friday morning. School Captains and class Junior School Captains and Sustainability Representatives will be presented with their badges by the Member for Ivanhoe, Mr Anthony Carbines. Although it will be a brief ceremony, this morning is an important acknowledgement of the importance of student leaders in the key functions of the school.
Enrolment in After School Activities
A reminder to all parents who register their children in extracurricular activities to inform the school and the extracurricular provider that the child will not be in attendance when they are not attending. On several occasions in the last week, emergency procedures were enacted to ensure that the children who had been taken home rather than attend an afternoon activity were safe.
Birding Club
Thursday 19 March
While 14 students from across the school joined in the birding expedition on Thursday last week, many of the birds stayed at home! Highlight were the Eastern Rosellas! We also loved seeing the Rainbow Lorikeets, Noisy Miners, and Australian Magpies. If your child would like to join us please don’t hesitate to let the office know and we can add them to the list. All participants need to have a completed Local Excursions Consent form.
