Principal's Update

Building Student Thinking Skills

At King’s College, we believe education is about more than academic achievement - it is about shaping hearts and minds for Christ.

In Genesis 1, we are reminded that we are created in the image of God. That means our capacity to think, create, problem-solve and persevere reflects something of our Creator. As a Christian school, we therefore see the development of strong thinking habits not just as an academic priority, but as part of God’s design for human flourishing.

Over the next two years, we will be intentionally embedding creative dispositions across our curriculum through a new curriculum framework. Dispositions such as Curiosity, Persistence, Flexibility and Courage are not simply learning strategies, they are qualities that help students steward their God-given abilities well.

When students learn to be persistent, they reflect perseverance in the face of challenge. When they are curious, they engage with the wonder of God’s world. When they are flexible and reflective, they learn humility and wisdom in considering different perspectives.

As we introduce these concepts, teachers will be explicitly naming and nurturing these dispositions in lessons, giving students a shared language about how they are growing as learners. Students will be encouraged not just to complete tasks, but to recognise how they are developing resilience, courage and thoughtful engagement.

As we continue to strengthen the foundations of learning at King’s College, our prayer is that our students grow not only in knowledge, but in character, becoming thoughtful, creative and faithful young people who use their minds for God’s glory.

PTFA Secretary – Call for Nominations

We are seeking nominations for the role of PTFA Secretary.

Our current Secretary, Ang Hales, will be stepping down from the role. We sincerely thank Ang for her faithful service as Secretary and for her broader support of the PTFA over the past two years. Her organisation, care and commitment have been greatly appreciated by both the College and our parent community.

The Secretary plays an important role within the Association, including:

  • Recording and preparing meeting minutes
  • Managing correspondence
  • Attending to general secretarial duties of the PTFA

If you are interested in nominating for this position, please collect a nomination form from the College Office.

Nominations close on Friday 27 February at 4:00pm.

We encourage parents who have a heart for serving our school community to consider this opportunity to contribute to the life of the College.

A special thank you to Roma Britnell MP for attending the service, presenting our leaders with their badges, and sharing a message of encouragement as they step into their roles for the year.
