Year 5 Exploring Their Character Strengths
As part of our Valued Beginning Unit, Year 5 students have been developing a deeper understanding of themselves by exploring their personal character strengths. As part of this learning, students completed the VIA Character Strengths Youth Survey, a tool that helps people identify their positive qualities and values.
Students identified and shared their top five character strengths — qualities such as love, humour, honesty, love of learning and creativity. They discussed what these strengths look like in everyday life, how they show up at school and home, and how recognising them can help build confidence and resilience.
To celebrate their learning, students created a self-portrait. These artworks are a powerful visual reminder that our character is just as important as our academic learning. The portraits highlight the many positive qualities that make our Year 5 community strong and supportive.
I’m sure you will agree that our Character Strengths wall looks amazing – many students marvel at this work each day, sharing and discussing each other’s strengths and valuing our diversity.
We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful reflection and creativity shown.
Be sure to ask your child about their top five character strengths — you may learn something new about them!
