ADF Careers Session
We were fortunate to have three members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) visit us for an engaging careers information session. Students had the opportunity to hear from Sergeant Roger Morris (Combat Rescue Operator), Private Ebony Littore (Human Resource Administrator), and Lance Corporal Dil Gharti (Infantry Soldier), who captivated them with insights into life in the Defence Force and the diverse career pathways it offers.
During the session, students learned not only about the benefits of a career in the ADF but also the exciting opportunities available, including travel, skill development, and job security. One of the key highlights was the ADF Gap Year Program, which allows students who have completed year 12 to gain valuable experience while earning a salary. As these positions fill up quickly, interested students are encouraged to start applying now for 2027. There may still be some positions available for 2026 but not many.
Another pathway discussed was the Defence University Sponsorship, where students can have their university degrees fully funded, graduate with practical experience, and earn an income while studying. Students also explored the application process, entry requirements, and the physical fitness tests required for each branch of the ADF—Army, Navy, and Air Force.
It was fantastic to see students actively engaged, asking insightful questions, and considering whether a career in the Defence Force aligns with their interests and aspirations.
For more information, students can see Ms Annett or visit adfcareers.gov.au.

Year 8 Visual Art
‘Celebrity Stars Portrait Drawing’
The Year 8 ‘Celebrity Stars,’ Portrait drawing project builds upon the foundational skills and continues to support student-cantered learning processes, through opportunities for students to express their voice and make choices, as they select and portray a celebrity or public figure they admire through realistic portrait drawing.
The project focuses on developing essential skills, including shading techniques that help students transition from dark to medium to light tones, creating depth and dimension in their portraits. Students also develop the skill of using, line, size, and shape to accurately represent facial features, eyes, nose, mouth. By carefully positioning the eyes, nose, and mouth, students learn how to position facial features with correct proportions, to achieve a realistic portrayal.
Throughout this process, students strengthen their technical skills and develop a growth mindset while sharing their knowledge and techniques with one another. This project is not only a journey of artistic skill development but also one of self-discovery and creative expression.
Year 10 Visual Art Making and Exhibiting
Nature and the Environment
In Year 10 Visual Art Making and Exhibiting, we continue to facilitate student-cantered learning opportunities that encourage and extend the growth mindset, critical thinking, and personal expression.
Currently, Year 10 Making and Exhibiting students are designing, planning, and creating artworks for their upcoming exhibition, ‘Nature and the Environment.’ Using visual language, students intend to tell stories that express their views, opinions, and perspectives on the world around them. Through their artworks, they highlight the beauty, complexity, and significance of the natural world, weaving together personal experiences, emotions, and their connection to nature and the environment.
By embracing the creative process, students refine their technical skills while deepening their appreciation for nature’s resilience, diversity, and boundless possibilities. Their works serve as compelling narratives that raise awareness, inspire reflection, and encourage conversations about our relationship with the environment. This exploration of Nature and the Environment is more than an artistic exercise—it is an opportunity for students to engage with important ecological and cultural themes, using art as a medium to celebrate, question, and advocate for the world we share.

Title: Golden Shoreline
Artist Statement:
A dark dramatic beach scene unfolds under a stormy sunset. Thick clouds swirl around above, casting deep purples and blues across the sky. The waves gently lap at the shore, reflecting the dim fading light in a quiet powerful stillness.

Title: The Granola Forrest
Artist Statement:
Based on the theme “nature in the environment” I came up with the idea of a magical garden that grows glowing pink orchids and any other flowers too. It will also consist of a beautiful, colourful rainbow and all organisms will be vibrant and colourful. There shall also be a mushroom and lily pad too.

Title of Artworks: Blooming Joyous
Artist Statement
I want to create something truly special, an artwork
that brings magic to life. Inspired by the enchanting
nature of flowers, my idea is to craft a world where
they hold a deeper, almost otherworldly meaning.
These aren’t ordinary flowers; they are magical, blooming with joy and radiating happiness.
They tell a story, one that invites people to believe in the extraordinary, even if just for a moment.

Title of Artwork: Beautiful Destruction
Artist’s Statement:
In this painting, I wanted to explore the contrast between the beauty and destruction of nature. One side is dark and burnt, symbolising loss and regrowth, while the other is lush and full of life, The river between them represents nature’s natural way of stopping fire, yet also serves as a connection, to remind us of nature’s cycle of destruction and regrowth.

Title of Artworks: Sunset Serenity
Artist Statement. This painting is inspired by nature and the calm feeling it gives. I wanted to show a peaceful landscape with warm colours and soft textures. The sunset in the background brings a sense of warmth, while the trees and river add life to the scene. The trees are full of fruit, representing growth and abundance. The small pond with ducks makes the painting feel livelier and more playful. The flowing river also symbolizes movement and change, just like in real life. My goal was to create a painting that makes people feel relaxed and connected to nature. It reminds us to slow down and appreciate the simple beauty around us.

Title of Artworks: Midnight Falls
Artist Statement This painting captures the beauty and mystery of nature at night. I wanted to create a peaceful scene where the stars shine brightly, and the river flows calmly through the forest. The dark mountains in the background add a sense of depth and adventure, while the waterfall symbolises movement and energy. I used cool colours like deep blues and greens to give the painting a calm and relaxing feeling. The bright stars contrast against the dark sky, reminding us of how vast and endless the universe is. My goal was to create a scene that makes people feel connected to nature and inspires them to appreciate the quiet beauty of the night.

Title of Artworks:
Artist Statement. Inspired by the affirmation, “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness,” my painting explores the contrast between struggle and resilience. The storm symbolises life’s darkest and most difficult moments, while the light reflects hope—pushing through the shadows, fighting to be seen. Through my artwork, I aim to tell a story about perseverance of hope, even in the midst of struggle and storms.
