This calculator can be purchased through the office for $30. It is your responsibility to have your own calculator. If you need some assistance to purchase one, please see Mr Hunt.
Work Placement
In the last week of last term we had some more Hospitality students doing work placement at various businesses.
Hospitality
This is the second week that students have been undertaking their work placement in Uralla and Armidale businesses.
Taya has been working at Pete's Mountview Butchery
Sam and Reiley at The Alternate Root Cafe
Johnathan at the Honey House Chinese restaurant located at the Uralla Bowling Club
David at the Coachwood and Cedar Hotel
Brianna and Matilda at Subway, Uralla
The students and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the business owners and managers who have made them feel very welcome in their businesses and have taken the time to impart their knowledge.
SBAT's
This year we have two students undertaking school-based apprenticeship and traineeship in Commercial Cookery. Aidan has commenced his SBAT at The Alternate Root Cafe and Liam McMillan at the Bolt Inn.
Touch Trials
In the last week of last term our boys and girls touch footy teams headed to Armidale to participate in the state wide Combined High Schools competition that included Peel, Glen Innes and Tamworth High Schools, Armidale Secondary College and Bundarra Central. The girls played brilliantly with two wins, one draw and one loss. They defended well and put on skillful tries. The boys were gallant in defeat and never stopped trying. Some of their tries came from length of the field runs, showing speed and good evasion. A special thank you to Hannah and Brydie for their efforts refereeing several games.
Farm Case Study
During Term 1, Academy Agriculture students visited 'Yarragool', a property owned by the Rummery family. Students had the opportunity to look at how the Rummery family manages their merino and trade cattle enterprises. Back at school, we further examined external and internal factors that influence Agriculture. We would like to thank the Rummery family for allowing us onto their farm and learning about their business.
Timber Professional Learning
At the start of Week 1, Mr Merrick and Mrs Upjohn spent two days at Armidale Secondary College undertaking some professional learning for Technology Mandatory which focussed on Timber. Over the two days, they learnt about joinery techniques, tools, and the finer points of classroom management in a workshop environment. Both successfully constructed a desk caddy by the end of the two days.
UNE Open Day
Seven Academy II students headed to UNE on Friday to be part of their open day. It was a great opportunity for our students to get an insight into life as a UNE student. There were tours of the residential colleges and Sport UNE and experts to talk to about a wide variety of courses.
