Kyral Castle
Tuesday 1st April
On Tuesday 1st April the year 8 students visited Kryal Castle in Ballarat, bringing an end to our Medieval Europe unit in Humanities. During the very busy day students participated in 6 learning models including Siege, were they learned to use a battering ram to smash down a castle door, this was followed by a lesson in Apothecary where students learned how herbs were used to treat medical problems and had a go at using a Mortar and Pestle to make a ‘medieval band aide’.
The students then found themselves as the judges and jury in the Manorial Court, where one of students accused the another of selling them rotten fish.
After lunch the students battled it out in the sword training model before visiting the torture and executioner chamber and a visit deep into the castle’s dark dungeon.
The day ended at King Arthur’s round table were students explored different armour and weaponry.
It was a great day and a valuable learning experience.
