Support & Extension Programs

Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI)

Throughout term one, the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) has been running successfully with our Year 1 and Year 2 students. During our twice-weekly small group sessions, we’ve been focusing on hands-on activities that foster a deeper understanding of numbers and numeracy concepts. It’s been wonderful to see the students engage in interactive learning experiences that not only promote their understanding but also help them develop problem solving skills for the classroom.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the year, I will be expanding the initiative to work with other year levels across the school. Year level teachers select students for the TLI program based on ongoing assessments, identifying those who would benefit most from targeted support. Next term, I will be working closely with our Year 3 and Year 4 students, continuing to provide them with engaging and hands-on activities to strengthen their understanding of numbers and problem-solving skills.

Victorian High Abilities Program (VHAP)

I have also had the privilege of working with our Year 5 and Year 6 students as part of the Victorian High Abilities Program (VHAP). These students are currently completing virtual lessons with Virtual Schools Victoria, where they’re engaging in challenging tasks that stretch their abilities beyond the classroom.

  • In Literacy, our students are working on final pieces of writing to showcase their skills and progress.
  • In Numeracy, our students have been collaborating with other students from across the state, tackling problems that push them to think critically and creatively.

The Department of Education selects students for the VHAP program using assessment data to ensure that students who demonstrate high potential are given opportunities for further enrichment.

Both the TLI and VHAP programs continue to play a vital role in supporting our students' growth and learning, and I look forward to continuing to work with all year levels throughout the year.
