Principal's Report

Excursion, Incursions & More!
As we approach the final few weeks of term one, students have been supporting their classroom learning by participating in a range of extracurricular activities. These events include an excursion to Cooper’s Settlement (Year 1) a toy incursion (Year 2), an excursion to Darebin Parklands (Year 3, pictured above), a democracy incursion (Year 4) and a team building incursion (Year 6). Foundation students have started their PMP program on Wednesday mornings and Year 6 teachers are finalising plans for camp during the last week of term.
Alongside these busy activities, please take the time to read through the Wellbeing section of this newsletter, where Cathy describes the leadership conference that our Year 6 leaders attended earlier in the term. Another part of the newsletter I encourage you to read is ‘Student Excellence Program’ and ‘Tutor Learning Initiative’, where Ginger describes these additional classes that she runs.
Sporting events are also ramping up. Congratulations to students who represented FPS at the recent district and division swimming events, and best of luck to those that have qualified for next week’s regional event.

NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students who have been completing the NAPLAN tests over the last two weeks. The technology worked well (always a big relief!) and our students were focused as they completed the four tests - you can read from the students themselves about their experiences of NAPLAN in the Year 5 Spotlight section. Thank you to the teachers involved for their support.
2025 School Council Nominations
We received six parent nominations for the six vacancies on school council. The following parents have nominated to remain on council for another term of two years: Hayden Gyles, Emma McDonald, Regan Richards. We welcome the following three new members to school council: Jock Hutton, Huon Morton, Sally Thorpe.
Grace Clark and Michele Fraser have nominated as staff members.
Acknowledgement & Thanks
I would like to acknowledge Daniel Freer and Natalie King whose time on Council has concluded. Dan and Nat have both been highly valued members of school council, taking on the roles of treasurer and secretary respectively. We appreciate the time and dedication that Dan and Nat have made throughout their time on council.
At our next school council meeting we will determine the president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary, which will be announced in our final newsletter of the term.
Kelly McKeown
This is the last newsletter before Kelly goes on maternity leave. This year Kelly has been supporting and teaching grades across the school – she had taught Foundation and Year 2 classes previously. We send Kelly our best wishes at this exciting time.
As always, keep an eye out in Compass to see what is happening around the school. Enjoy the rest of the week.
