St Marcellin Centre Wins Architecture Award

Our new primary school building – the St Marcellin Centre – was recognised by the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) at the Greater Brisbane Regional Awards on Friday 11 April.
Designed by Old Boy Paul Hotston (1985), founder of phorm architecture + design, and built by Stokes Wheeler, the building was officially opened on Thursday 6 June 2024.
The AIA awards program includes site visits by a panel (jury) of professionals. The juries are selected for their familiarity with the category and include architects and interior designers. I accompanied the jury and Hudson Smith (representing Paul Hotston) as they investigated the building on Tuesday 4 March this year.
Their insightful questions and obvious appreciation for the thoughtful design were very encouraging. A brief chat with Primary School Pastoral Leader Anthony Graham sealed the deal when he reflected on the way the building enhanced teaching and learning.
Lots of happy primary students clearly enjoying being in the space didn’t hurt either!
The Awards:
Regional Commendation – Educational Architecture
Regional Shortlist – EMaGn Project Award
Regional Shortlist – Colorbond Award for Steel Architecture Award
The St Marcellin Centre will now progress to the state awards to be announced on 27 June. Another jury will visit the building sometime between 6-16 May.
