Homework week
Please note that the SMPS homework week is from Sunday - Saturday. If students complete more than 1 Mathseeds lesson in this time, their homework is marked as 'incomplete'. Please see the email sent from the Prep team called 'Term 2 organisation' on the 22nd of April for a detailed schedule of which dates to complete lessons.
Uniform expectations
We have noticed a number of Preps mixing their winter and summer uniform. Please note that if your child wears the winter top, they are required to wear winter pants, not shorts.
Celebration of Learning Lessons:
Prep A: In English, we have been learning about plants. In this lesson, parents will be able to discuss the seasons with their child and make a collage of what a tree would look like in the chosen season.
Prep B: In Personal and Social Capabilities, students have been learning to identify and understand basic emotions. They have explored how emotions look, feel, and what situations might trigger them. They’ve also been developing strategies to cope with strong feelings, such as deep breathing or seeking help. These skills support emotional awareness, empathy, and resilience.
Prep C/D: In Humanities, the students have been learning about their local community and roles different occupations play in contributing to a happy, safe community. During the Celebration of Learning lesson, students will think about what job they might like to do when they’re older and how this will help the community.
Prep E: In Science, Preps have been learning about the parts of a plant and the life cycle. During the Celebration of Learning lesson, students will be able to make their own plant out of playdoh.

Uniform expectations
As the weather changes and the temperature is getting colder, we have noticed a number of Year 1s mixing their winter and summer uniform. Please note that if your child wears the summer dress, they are required to wear navy socks. Students can wear stockings with the winter dress. Stockings and long-sleeved tops are not to be worn under the summer dress. Please see image below for reference.
Home Reading
Reading at home is important for students to practise the segmenting and blending skills they are learning at school during Phonics lessons. All students are expected to read for 4 nights a week. Teachers check the diaries each week and celebrate home reading with the students.

Homework
It has been lovely to see so many faces on our Mathseeds posters each week. This means that your child is applying their learning from school. Thank you for your support in instilling a strong homework routine for your child.
The expectation is 1 lesson of Mathseeds completed a week (Sunday - Saturday). Please remember that Sunday starts the new week.
The other homework expectation is reading 4 nights for 15 minutes. This is to be written in your child's diary and signed. Diaries should come to school every day.

Accelerated Reader Targets
A huge congratulations to those of you already smashing your AR targets - let’s keep that momentum going! Just a quick reminder: it’s important that students are choosing novels within your AR range. These books are picked to challenge you just the right amount, helping you build skills and eventually reach a higher range. Students will still have a chance to enjoy their favourite personal reads such as manga - these can be saved for free reading week once your target has been reached.

Celebration of Learning Lessons:
The Year 6 team is excited to showcase our learning on states of matter in an interactive Science lesson. In a hands-on experiment, students and their families will experience a physical change of liquid to solid, using simple household ingredients to create butter! Students will also have a chance to show off their skills in recording their observations, as part of their learning sequence in writing a lab report.
