On the 31st of March, our Year 12 Hospitality class embarked on an exciting excursion to the Novotel in Wollongong, and it was an experience that helped bring our studies to life.
We began the day with an insightful presentation by the Human Resources manager Anna who talked to us about different branches in a hotel and job opportunities that we could take up that could take us around the world. We then crafted mocktails and tested our barista skills by making coffees.
These activities allowed us to channel our prior skills while learning new tips and tricks from Novotel’s trained baristas. We then started our tour of the hotel, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the establishment. This helped us to understand how a hotel runs smoothly and we learned about the immense coordination required to deliver a seamless hospitality experience. The chefs prepared an amazing lunch which was quickly devoured while we enjoyed the ocean views.
Overall, this excursion was a great experience to learn about all of the different industries and career paths that can be taken in a hotel and was very insightful in its ability to showcase the behind-the-scenes operations and opportunities that make the hospitality industry so dynamic and diverse.
