In SIM+ this term, Year 7 have been unlocking their strengths, Years 8 and 9 have been activating their strengths, and Year 10 have been uncovering their purpose. Through this work, students have delved deeper into their strengths and channelled them into action through a group task with other complementary strengths-based team members. How did they do that? Through responding to the following prompt: what is one initiative that you could create to benefit the wellbeing of staff or students?

Over the term, we have seen numerous initiatives grow and develop. Some were micro initiatives that were able to be actualised. These included teacher wellbeing baskets filled with personalised goodies and letters, cleaning the Ched to make it safer to play sport, and a student raffle for a lolly bag, in which students entered the raffle by writing an affirmation for a teacher.

On Friday 4 April, one group (Max M, Aston B, Jude W, James G, Samuel N) ran a Staff vs Student basketball game. The Staff came away victorious with a fun time had by all. Other students wanted to redesign spaces around the school and interviewed staff and students to propose and draw new imagined spaces such as the oval, or timeout rooms.

Students were also given the opportunity to present these ideas to the Year 12 student leadership team and staff. Whilst the by-product for some is the hope that there could be a joint action to see these initiatives, or an adaptation of them, come to fruition, the primary goal was to showcase the student voice. Year 12 and staff were invited to provide feedback, and the room was filled with positivity and enthusiasm. We commend all students for their work this term and congratulate the following groups on being willing to share their presentations.  I also commend the staff who have helped empower and facilitate their work this term.
