2025 Buddy Leader Program

Tuesday morning was a special moment for our Year 11s as they received their buddy leader badges from their Year 7 buddies. This occasion also marked the conclusion of their weekly sessions, which have taken place every Tuesday throughout Term 1.

We sincerely thank them for the friendships they have built with our new Year 7s and for helping them settle into life at Chev, and we look forward to them continuing their support of their Year 7 buddies through Home Room and beyond.

Youth Council 2025

We would like to congratulate Ayla C from Year 9 and Charlie F from Year 10 who were nominated to represent Chevalier in the first ever Youth Council.

What is the Youth Council?

The Wingecarribee Shire Youth Council empowers young people to represent the voice of youth in the Wingecarribee Shire and to develop their skills to build engaged citizens and progressive leadership.

What is the Youth Council’s Purpose?

The Wingecarribee Shire Youth Council’s role is to represent the voice of young people who live, work, play and study in the Wingecarribee Local Government Area. It provides a formal means for representation and information exchange between Council and young people and provides opportunities for young people to raise local youth issues.

Aims and Objectives of Youth Council

Wingecarribee Shire Youth Council aims and objectives are to:

  • Provide valuable advice to the Council on matters that affect young people before formal decisions are made.
  • Create opportunities for youth engagement with the Council and ensure young voices are heard.
  • Promote a youth voice to Council in a structured and formal way for future planning decisions.
  • Represent the interests, perspectives, challenges, and opportunities of young people in our municipality.
  • Establish connections between the Wingecarribee Shire Councillors and young people.

Youth Council Membership Meetings

The Youth Council will consist of representatives across Year 7 to Year 12 from each local secondary school, and the following non-voting members:

  • Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick
  • Councillor Heather Champion
  • Manager Community Life and Libraries
  • Council Community Development Officer

Appointment of Youth Council voting members will be for a one-year term.

Meetings will be held three times per year (once per term) during school hours and at various school locations. The first of these meetings took place this week, proudly hosted by us here at Chev.  Future meetings may also be held online using video conferencing.

Youth Council members will also participate in the annual one-day Youth Forum that will be held at a Council facility in November.

We wish Ayla and Charlie all the best as they embark on this amazing opportunity and we have no doubt they will make valuable contributions and represent Chevalier proudly.
