YEAR 9 ADP CAMP

100km Challenge Camp - Warburton

The Challenges Experienced

Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 February

WASPS

Whilst we were all having a delightful time playing intense hide and seek, we sprinted towards the huge gum trees, hearts beating rapidly as the adrenaline rushed to our legs. Our minds hoped that the giant trees would hide the little bodies of students. We saw Mr. Gilbee standing still on the spot as he counted down from 10. Dirt slid across the undergrowth as shoes big and small collided to an instant halt. As we all froze in silence, Mr Gilbee got down to the number 2. Eyes peeled, our hearts still rapidly pumping, we prayed that we could win the game. Out of the blue, it came to our notice that people were ducking to cover their heads and bodies. The trees blazed with colors yellow and black as a giant wasp nest came to life. Screaming and yelling turned into terror as students ran from the trees in every direction.

BIKES

Cranks were turning in a non-stop motion as we all gradually completed the dusty and weather-beaten Warburton trail. Glistening coated bike frames of many various colors filled the path, lighting up the spirit of what was ahead. As the teachers took turns swapping from bike to van, we rapidly kept moving at a steady pace. Every now and then we would stop and grab a bite to eat, from the fresh, tart, and sweet apple to the filling and flavored muesli bar. That energy from those delights kept us moving forward, pushing through the tight pains in our legs and persisting with the journey. Gigantic mountain ranges formed around us as we flew over bumpy bridges and rocky paths. As we all finally arrived at our destination, our minds and bodies could have a break at last.

HIKING - Mt. Donna Buang

Backpacks fastened to our backs, shoes tight and eyes wide as we all looked up at the humongous mountain range. As we set off in one big group, we were ready to take on this tall challenge. Stride after stride, we continued up the side of the main road towards the bushy shrubs and undergrowth that awaited us. Once the first break was done and dusted, we went up in little groups, each led by a teacher. Ancient-like trees gapped over us as we set off, officially beginning our climb of the gigantic forest. The climb became steeper and steeper, every step leading us to the top. Gnarled sticks and rough stones filled the undergrowth, followed by the amusing chocolate-coloured path that was rising to the summit. Halfway up the range now, minds tired and legs aching. Only a few more metres to go… After we threw a few snacks into our systems, we set off once more before reaching our destination. Stones, branches, and swamps filled our path as we submerged into the depths of the forest's mouth. Views of other mountain ranges came into sight, beautiful hills overlapping each other as we kept rising to the tippy top. Just below the mountain's tip, a single cell tower was placed, its stairs spiralling up and up as a ledge at the front gazed over the magnificent view. Hauling our exhausted bodies up the last stretch of the hill, we saw the best thing we’d ever seen - a bus! Yes, we made it!
