FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Term 1

As we come to the end of term, my thanks to staff, students, and parents/carers for being part of Lilydale High School and working towards a positive experience.

Wellbeing Wednesday

This year we have introduced Wellbeing Wednesday, where the Wellbeing Team organises activities and information relating to wellbeing. Students have happily engaged with the activities and information, and it has provided an opportunity for students to get together across the year levels.

In Term 2, one of the Year 9 Community Time classes will be taking the initiative over with other activities.

Community Time

Community Time was introduced in 2022 to align with part of the school motto ‘Thriving in Community’ by providing opportunities to work in the community with a range of groups. It is now a program that Year 9 students very much look forward to and engage with in a very positive manner.

The students are involved in a range of classes including Compassionate Kitchen, Community Sport, Connecting with Clay, and Reptile and Wildlife Care, to name a few.

The opportunity to give back to the community with each of the projects that the students develop is a chance to not only learn new skills but also to demonstrate kindness and empathy.

Thrive

This year all year levels are engaging once a week with a Thrive class. It is an opportunity for everyone to engage in departmental initiatives such as Respectful Relationships and a range of other activities, such as study skills, career education, and providing feedback on school initiatives.

We will also use this time for year level assemblies and to administer surveys. The feedback from students is an important factor for school improvement; this dedicated time ensures they are not missing out on class time. Student feedback indicates that the sessions are enjoyable and worthwhile.

Road Safety

We are again urging students to avoid crossing the road near the entrance to Box Hill Institute, where the road bends to become Melba Avenue. Motorists are reporting some students crossing the road with no care for their own safety at times.

The pedestrian crossing near the entrance to the school on Hutchinson Street is there to be used, and whilst it may mean a little further to walk, it provides a better option for safe crossing.

Term 2

A reminder that school returns on Tuesday, April 22nd. The week will be a short one with ANZAC Day on Friday, April 25th.

We wish all of our students a safe and happy break. See you next term!
