Chess Tournament Results

A group of 19 students represented Ballarat High School at the 2025 Kryal Castle Chess Shield. There were some amazing games played throughout the day with BHS finishing in a commendable 7th place out of fifteen government and private schools from both Melbourne and Ballarat areas.

Well done to Sam Song who finished 3rd overall (field of 222). He won the gold medal for highest scoring Year 9/10 student in the tournament. Also an excellent effort was Methuja Dissanayake in Year 7 who finished 11th overall. BHS had 6 students finish in the top 30% to qualify for the State Final and a further 5 students missing by half a point.

All students should be proud of their efforts today, the behaviour and support of each other was fantastic to see. Thanks to Kylie Ellis who was a fantastic helper and supporter of the students today.
