ACCOUNTING

Year 11 and 12 Accounting students have started the year well and have already completed one assessment. The Year 11 students are learning about the difference between cashflow and profit as well as creating Accounting Reports such as Income Statements and Balance Sheets. The Year 12 students have commenced double entry accounting and exploring General Ledger and General Journals.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Unit 1 Business Management students have been planning for their short-term businesses that are expected to operate on Market Day, Wednesday 13th August. There should be a wide range of products on offer including baked goods, lollies and hot foods. The students will run their businesses as part of our first and second assessment tasks in Unit 2, where they will be required to make decisions about, planning, running and then evaluating a small business simulation within the school. Each business will pay tax and rent into a school account. The money raised from this will be donated to a charity chosen by the students.

Unit 1 Business Management students have also been participating in the ASX Schools Share Market Game. Students receive a virtual $50,000 that they can invest over a 10-week period, in over 300 companies listed on the ASX. James Triantafyllopoulos is currently in first place in the school, with a portfolio value of $52,988 and is 20th in Victoria (87th in Australia). There are approximately 15,000 student syndicates competing across Australia.

PHILOSOPHY CLUB

This year Philosophy Club is running again! We have a great group of regular students who come and contribute questions to the session and then support each other in positive ways to explore possible ideas and suggestions to consider! Some of the topics and questions we have explored are – Should we colonise mars? What matters, does anything actually matter? Are humans naturally power hungry? This year participants were so keen to share and talk about their ideas that they requested we meet twice a week!!

Philosophy club happens every Wednesday and Friday at lunchtime in the Library.
