Foundation News

How exciting it is to be nearing the end of our first term! The time has flown by, and we have come such a long way since our very first day in Foundation. We have learned to be resilient, show respect, and think critically. Along the way, we've made wonderful new friends and are looking forward to many more fun times ahead.

This week has been both busy and exciting, filled with lots of new learning. We explored the Zones of Regulation, discussing how to recognize and manage our emotions when we find ourselves in different zones. As part of Harmony Week, we had meaningful conversations about inclusivity and the importance of making sure everyone feels a sense of belonging. We also talked about gratitude—what it means and how we can express it in our daily lives.

A special highlight has been our fresh fruit and vegetable platters, kindly organized by our amazing parent helpers. There's been lots of happy munching on Monday mornings—a fantastic way to start the week!

Water Treatment Plant Excursion

Our excursion to the Western Water Treatment Plant in Cocoroc was an insightful experience about the water cycle and its importance to Melbourne’s growing community. We learned how water is treated and managed, ensuring a sustainable supply for the city. A bus tour of the facilities gave us a firsthand look at where sewerage enters the plant and the processes involved in its treatment before it leaves. One memorable stop was seeing raw sewerage up close—an eye-opening (and smelly!) reminder of the essential work done at the plant.

Junior Bowls Program- Newport Bowls Club

During Term 1, lawn bowls was introduced into the senior school sports program for the first time.

Under the instruction and guidance of a number of volunteer bowlers at Newport Bowls Club, a group of Year 5/6 students have been learning the skills and rules of playing lawn bowls.

The program has been conducted in a very relaxed and friendly environment and the children have enjoyed the experience of playing lawn bowls at a local community club.

The Newport Bowls Club, located in Market St. Newport is open for all community members. Families are invited to come along and participate in a social game of barefoot bowls - a sport that can be played by all members of the family in a fun and relaxing setting.

A member of the club will assist with any instruction and the club will provide the equipment and resources.

The club is open for visitors on Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm and Saturdays from Noon. The club's bistro is also open on all 3 days from 5pm if you wish to bring your family down for a meal and a bowl.

Newport Bowls Club prides itself in being a family-friendly and affordable venue and is proud to be involved with our local school.
