Principal Report

Good afternoon parents and carers,

It’s been another big couple of weeks here at NLPS and the students are doing their best as we get towards the end of an eventful term. It was great to see so many of you at the Open Classroom afternoon for Years 1- 6 in Week 7. Since then we’ve had incursions, local excursions to Newport Lakes, Year 4 camp, NAPLAN for Years 3 & 5, a whole school photo day as well as almost getting through another busy Planning Week this week. I think it's safe to say that all of us here at school are looking forward to the upcoming break!

Year 4 Camp

Sixty-nine of our Year 4 students thoroughly enjoyed their first experience of school camp, with many of them far too excited to sleep much that first evening! Campaspe Downs is a wonderful camp, with many fun activities and fantastic staff. It was great to see our students so engaged in the new activities, challenging themselves and collaborating with each other - a highlight for the groups I was with on Tuesday was the Possum Glider (giant flying fox). Thank you to our dedicated NLPS staff who attended this camp so our Year 4 cohort could have such a wonderful experience, as well as those families that were able to allow their child to stay at home on the following day so they could get a well needed rest and we could meet our Time in Lieu requirements. With all of our camps now completed for 2025, we now look ahead to 2026, with camps all set to go at Phillip Island and Candlebark Farm. More details will be sent out to families early next year.

A Reminder re. Photographing & Recording Students

As per the school’s Photographing,Filming & Recording policy, I’d like to remind parents and families that NLPS endeavours to respect the privacy of all members of our school community and formally requests that parents/carers, students and invited guests do not photograph, film or record school performances, assemblies, sporting events and other school-approved activities, besides images of their own children. If you do happen to capture another NLPS student/s in your images, NLPS requests that parents/carers, students and invited guests who have taken the image do not publish the images in any form, including on social media, without the prior consent of persons whose children also appear in the images. Neither the school nor the department own or control any images of students taken by parents/carers, students or their invited guests at school activities.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

Call Out to Past Students - Hobsons Bay Millennium Time Capsule

For those of you that had links to our school at the turn of the century (remember the whole Y2K debacle?!?) you may remember the school putting together a small ‘time capsule’,  along with all other Hobsons Bay schools, that were then buried at Mount Truganina.  See here for more information on the project. Now, after 25 years, they have recently been dug up and there is a Time Capsule Exhibition and official handover coming up (please see more details in photo attached below).  If you were involved in the project please let the school know as we’d love to get your reflections on seeing the time capsule contents again once it's returned.

Department of Education’s Schools’ Privacy Policy

The Department of Education wishes schools to remind parents and carers of our current privacy policy around collecting, using, disclosing and managing personal and health information. The Department of Education values your privacy and is committed to protecting information that schools collect. All staff including contractors, service providers and volunteers of the department, and all Victorian government schools (schools), must comply with Victorian privacy law and this policy.
