Perseverance and Growth – Embracing Challenges in Learning

The ‘unbound learner’ seeks out and generates new understandings. They practice and experiment, persisting in the face of challenge. At All Saints’ College, we encourage students to see challenges as opportunities for growth. As part of our work in the New Metrics for Success program, we are fostering agency in learning by helping students develop resilience, perseverance, and a mindset that values effort and improvement.

Mistakes and setbacks are a natural part of learning. In the classroom, students are encouraged to take on challenges, learn from feedback, and refine their approaches rather than fearing failure. This process helps them build confidence and independence in their learning.

Parents can support this at home by praising effort over outcomes. Ask your child/ren questions such as “What did you learn from that challenge?” and encourage them to persist when things don’t come easily. By their embracing struggle as part of the journey, we help students develop the skills and mindset they need to succeed—both in school and beyond.

We look forward to celebrating the progress and perseverance of our students as they continue to grow.

OLNA ROUND 1: Term 2, Monday 5 to Friday 16 May 2025

The OLNA is an online literacy and numeracy assessment. It is designed to enable students to successfully meet the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) requirement of demonstrating the minimum standard of literacy and numeracy.

Students who have achieved the required standard of the three components of reading, writing and numeracy in their Year 9 NAPLAN are acknowledged as having demonstrated proficiency in using a range of ACSF Level 3 skills in that component and will not be required to sit the corresponding OLNA component.

Year 11, 12 and select Year 10 students who have not met the minimum standard will be required to sit the OLNA Round 1 test. Relevant parents/guardians will receive information via email at the end of this term. OLNA Information for Parents/Carers brochure is available online HERE.
