Years 2 & 3

In the 2/3 room we have been working hard as the term draws to a close. We finished our class text, Fantastic Mr Fox and associated work. It has been a wonderful book for our class to share and has averaged a rating of 10 out of 10 from the students!
Students have also worked on creating a persuasive writing text. They were tasked with thinking of an animal they would love to have as a pet at school, and writing a letter to convince Mrs Steele to get it. Students worked through the planning, drafting, editing, and publishing stages of the writing process. At the editing stage we reviewed the persuasive language devices previously identified in The day the crayons quit, and students worked really impressively to edit their writing to include more of these. At the publishing stage, students wrote their letter on fancy paper and enclosed it in an addressed envelope for Mrs Steele. They worked fantastically well on this task. Although their letters are very persuasive, I do believe potential logistical problems could dissuade Mrs Steele from considering an elephant, a Ninja Turtle, or a Dog Man as a school pet! Nevertheless, happy holiday reading Mrs Steele!!
Students did demonstrate some stress at various points of the writing process - a sort of 'writer's block' at times which arose out of wanting to do a great job. We were able to integrate our Wellbeing work this term into our learning in this space through connecting the 'stressed' feeling with our understanding of the zones of regulation and reviewing how when we can relax our body moves back to the green zone - which helps our brain think more clearly and our words to flow more easily.
Maths work has been varied over the past couple of weeks. We have continued to work on number and place value, developing and refining our skills in partitioning numbers and representing them in a variety of ways. Students have completed a couple of pre-assessments for the planning of next term's work. We also have begun some work with shapes, reviewing vocabulary and visual representations of various shapes and 3D forms.
We finished term today with an Easter theme and here are some photos of the students in their Easter finery. I hope everyone has a lovely school holiday and Easter.
