Tuesday week ago our 9-12 year old students competed at the SGSSA Athletics in at Mitchell Park in Hamilton. Our students were so well behaved, they showed respect and great sportsmanship. We have some students that received placements in the events and will be heading on to the next level. Permewans Mitre 10 - Colouring Competition
The students were sent home with a colouring competition from Permewans in Hamilton. Just clarifying that on the colouring page it says it is drawn on the 8th April but students will have until the 14th of April to submit them to Permewans.
GRIP Leadership Conference - Mount Gambier
What an amazing day we had! Cooper, Emma, Fiona, Ava, Thomas and Jaxson travelled to Mt Gambier with Callie Leese and I. (Many thanks to Callie for being our offsider and transporting the kids). We learnt about aspects of leadership. A leader has to be willing, helpful, set an example and be a voice for others. They have to be friendly, and lead through conversation, sharing and fun. They work with others to come up with realistic ideas and work as a team to achieve their goals.
My favourite part of the day was listening to the answer to Ava's question. She asked, “What other leadership advice could the panel give us?”. The reply centred on the idea of looking for and taking advantage of opportunities. It was a great answer, as this is something that I look for as leader of our school - looking for opportunities for our students to develop skills and be active community members. The GRIP Leadership conference was an example of this - providing our students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills as part of our wider West Southwest education community, as well as build relationships with peers. It was great to see other schools from our district there, and our students recognised some of the friends they had made at Somers Camp!
ANZAC Day 2025
A few weeks ago I was approached by representatives from the Cavendish branch of the RSL, asking would the students and I march as part of the service on ANZAC Day at the Cavendish park. My reply was a heartfelt yes. A school is central to a small community such as ours, and showing our respect for these commemorative occasions is integral to our values.
I am asking our families to support our students to join the march. Students need to be in winter uniform. I would strongly encourage any student in a leadership position to join in and wear their leadership badge. When I receive more details, I will let you know. At this stage I know we are to meet at 8:45am for a 9:00am start.
Visit from Easter Bunny
The students had a welcome visitor to school today. Easter bunny paid us a visit and left some eggs out for all the children. They had a wonderful time looking for their name on an egg, hiding in the school grounds.
Good Friday Appeal
The students dressed up with a hint of Easter today and made a gold coin donation to the Good Friday Appeal. We made $50 to go towards the town's fundraising efforts. Students have been sent home a raffle book for the raffle run by the Lions Club - Easter Eggs. Feel free to write on both sides of the book. Sold tickets and money are due in at the Bridge Cafe by Wednesday 16th April. Please try and sell as many tickets to help with the fundraising efforts as the Lions Club are not permitted to stand on the corner this year to rattle the tins.
Start of Term 2
Reminder that Monday 21st April and Friday 25th April are public holidays. Our first day of school for Term 2 is Tuesday 22nd April. We look forward to having everyone back refreshed and ready for Term 2.
Enjoy the holiday break. Stay safe.
