Classroom Happenings

  Foundation & Year 1

One term down already—can you believe it?

A big thank you to our Foundation and Year 1 students for a fantastic start to the year.

The growth in their learning, confidence and friendships over the past 10 weeks has been incredible to see. They really are little superstars!

A highlight at the end of term was celebrating Harmony Day with our Year 5 and 6 buddies. Together, we created paper dolls that reflected and celebrated our similarities and differences. It was a beautiful way to build connection and community across the school.

Years 2/3/4

In 2/3/4 at the end of Term One, students have been working very hard in their learning time. We learnt about the relationships between Multiplication and Division and working hard through mini Multiplication workbooks that aim to increase the student's fluency of reciting their times tables. Year 2 are on the 2 Times Tables, while Year 3 and 4 are on the 3 Times Tables. The students cannot move on to the next Multiplication booklet until they have finished the first. We are hoping to get through to the 12 times tables by Term 4! (Fingers crossed!!)

Perhaps one of the most exciting things to have happened in our classroom at the end of term was the 2/3/4 Olympics! Our maths strand that we had been focusing on was Time. We worked on reading time on an analogue clock, a digital clock and learned how to read 'elapsed time', which is time that has passed. We decided what better way to get into the thick of hands-on learning about timing, stopwatches, elapsed time and reading digital time than to host our very own class Olympics! Each student was given a brief: To create an Olympic event (the sky was the limit with creativity!), the event must be no longer than 2 minutes, the event had to be timed, The event had to be brainstormed and planned out in detail, the event could use any sport equipment that the school has available and the groups needed to design ribbons to be given to the placeholders of each event.

As you could imagine, there were some VERY creative events!

After all of the careful planning, it was time to execute the events.

This was so much FUN! There were hurdles and long jump, high jump, footballs and running- sometimes all in one event!!

Years 5 & 6

What a final few weeks of term!

In the 5/6 classroom we have been working hard at finishing off our class novel War Horse, working on Maths concepts like divisible numbers, multiples, prime and composite numbers, and creating equations. Amongst this we have had some other wonderful opportunities such as our students having the chance to become FIRE (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) carriers, an amazing leadership opportunity for these students to promote respect, fairness, and inclusion for Aboriginal people. We are so proud of the students who took on this responsibility.
