This week two groups of Year 12s took part in the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate competition with our second team coming first…. well done to both teams for being involved! Events such as this are valuable opportunities for students to engage with and learn from industry and put themselves “out there”.
My thanks to those staff that attended with the students; Tony Abel, Shaun Lawrence, Mia Davis and Brenton Rice. These events only happen because staff are generous with their personal time.
Driver Safety
Driving is probably one of the most dangerous things we do and there are lots that can go wrong, largely as a result of inattention with catastrophic outcomes. Our students are at an age where they are getting their licences and driving independently on the open road; a terrifying prospect for most parents.
We have a series of learning programs for students across all years centred on driver safety. These include;
Our graduated licence system on farm - increasing access to machines and vehicles and driving circumstances at each licence step.
Year 10 Keys for Life - road safety course leading to attaining the learners permit.
Year 11 PARTY Program - hospital visit and learning about each step following a vehicle crash.
Year 12 RAC bstreetsmart- presentation on the various emergency services involved in a roach crash.
Throughout all programs, there is a recurring message about the need to maintain attention whilst driving, to abide by the road rules and the role that passengers have in maintaining road safety.
Primary School Visit
This week we had a visit from a group of Year 5/6 students from Kojonup who were staying in the area on a camp. They came to visit the dairy but also visited the shearing shed where Mr Adams impressed with his crutching prowess. My thanks to our students who acted as tour guides and who impressed the visitors with their mature, friendly and knowledgeable manner.
Congratulations
I am pleased to announce that Patrick Swallow will continue in the role of Coordinator Student Services for the remainder of the year following a full selection process. Patrick has worked hard and made a significant difference to our Student Services portfolio over this term and I am pleased that he is able to carry on in the role.
Have a great weekend.
