Year 3 Team
Year 3 students have had a great start to Term 2.
Here are what students have to say about this term so far!
Hi my name is Azadah from 3A, these are the things I have enjoyed this term. I’ve enjoyed maths, reading clocks and addition. I have liked learning about how to add using the just strategy.
Lunch time clubs have been really fun!
My name is Mavis and I am in 3C.
In reading we have been learning to pick a topic and to ask questions about it.
For writing we have been creating contents pages, a glossary and have been matching information to subheadings.
In maths we have been learning how to add using the jump strategy and split strategy.
My favourite subject so far is maths and my favourite event so far was cross country, I had to run around the whole hill. It was fun!
This term in science we are learning about the Earth’s orbit and the moons orbit and how long it takes. We learnt everything in the solar system orbits the sun as well.
We have learnt that the moon takes 1 month to go around the Earth and it takes 1 day for the Earth to spin once.
We have really enjoyed doing these activities. Leyla and Adrian .

Welcome Back!
Welcome back to yet another busy and eventful term! We hope everyone had a relaxing break and are ready for a term full of exciting learning experiences.
We’ve already made a strong start across all subject areas and are especially looking forward to our upcoming zoo excursion, which will support both our literacy and science learning in meaningful ways.
Writing
This term, students have begun exploring Information Report writing. We are focusing on the structure and features of these texts, such as subheadings, factual language, and labelled diagrams. To connect with our zoo excursion, students have started researching sea animals and will shift their focus to land animals after our visit. This research will form the basis for their own detailed and informative reports.
Reading
In Reading, students are developing their comprehension skills by analysing a range of information texts. They are learning to identify key features such as headings, diagrams, topic-specific vocabulary, and factual details. This work is supporting their understanding of how authors organise and present information, while also building skills to apply in their own writing.
Mathematics
We’ve kicked off our Addition and Subtraction unit, where students are learning different strategies to solve problems efficiently and accurately. Alongside this, we’ve introduced angles, focusing on how to identify and measure them using correct mathematical language and tools. It’s been a hands-on and engaging start to our term in maths!
Humanities
In Humanities, students are learning about culture, identity, and diversity in Australia. We are exploring what culture means, how it shapes who we are, and recognising the many different cultures that make up modern Australia. A key focus of our learning is on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures—understanding their traditions, customs, and way of life before the arrival of European settlers. Students are developing a deeper appreciation for the rich and enduring history of First Nations Australians.
Health & Respectful Relationships
In Health and our Respectful Relationships (RR) sessions, we are focusing on emotional regulation, with a particular emphasis on recognising, understanding, and managing feelings of anger and frustration. Students are learning practical strategies to express their emotions in safe and respectful ways and how to support others in doing the same. These lessons are an important part of building positive relationships and emotional resilience.

Maths:
In Mathematics, students have been learning about time, with a focus on understanding elapsed time—working out how much time has passed between two events. They have also explored different time zones around the world and practised converting between them. These lessons have helped build their confidence in using both digital and analogue clocks, as well as interpreting timetables.
Reading:
In Reading, students have been learning how to find reliable information to support their writing on an information text topic. They’ve practised identifying key facts, using trustworthy sources, and summarising ideas. They have also been developing their note-taking skills, using dot points and organising their notes under clear headings.
Writing:
During Writing, students have started turning their research into well-organised information reports. They are learning to group ideas under subheadings, write clear topic sentences, and support their writing with facts and evidence. The focus has been on writing in full paragraphs and organising ideas clearly to inform the reader.
Science:
In Science, students have begun an exciting new topic on space. They’ve started learning about the solar system, including the planets and other celestial bodies. This introduction has sparked lots of curiosity and great questions as we begin to explore what lies beyond Earth.
Kind regards,

"In Year 6 we are cool because we thrive at school."
We have a had a great start to Term 2 in Year 6. We are focusing on Information texts in Reading and Writing. We have been learning about the author’s style in these texts and exploring effective text features.
In Maths we have been exploring Multiplication. So far – factor trees to show factors and multiples.
In Humanities…
Just a minute! We’re also doing Time in Maths! We have been converting between 12- and 24-hour and some of us have been exploring time zones worldwide.
Now, Humanities has been interesting – we are learning about Australia’s history. Did you know the James Cook mapped the East coast of Australia in 1778, but while he was at Botany Bay, the local Gweagal people were harmed and had over 40 traditional handmade spears stolen?
It really makes us think: was Captain Cook a pirate?
This Friday we have our first InterSchool Sports day: hockey, soccer, AFL 9s, netball and t-ball.
Good luck to everyone who is participating!
Important note:
Our Grade 6 Camp will be at Phillip Island from September 17-19.
Friendly reminder to all Grade 6 families that the deposit is due to be paid no late than this Friday, May 9.
We hope to have as many students as possible for an amazing camp!
