P&F Sundowner and Parent Information Sessions

To get the year off to a great start, please join us for the hugely popular P&F Sundowner which is on Friday 14 February, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, in the Pratten Centre Courtyard.  This well-loved event is an opportunity for GSG parents and guardians to come and enjoy some drinks and finger food with us, meet and get to know other families who are part of the GSG community and share the joy of a new school year.

As this is an adults only event, a child minding service will be offered at GSG for children who are enrolled and attending at GSG, from Djinda to Year Six.  You can register your child for this service here.  Please note there are limited places available and they will be offered on a first come, first served basis.  Registrations will close by 4.00pm on Thursday 13 February.

Before the Sundowner, Parent Information sessions will be offered and all families, but especially new families, are very welcome to attend.  Sessions for Primary School will be at the following times:

5.00pmWelcome for all Primary School families in the Early Childhood Centre foyer
5.10pm - 5.30pmParent information sessions for Kindy, Year Two, Year Four and Year Six
5.30 - 6.00pmParent Information sessions for Pre-Primary, Year One, Year Three and Year Five.

A Message from I.T.

Your child may come home from school this week with their very own school-assigned IT device. We provide devices for students to take home from Year Six at GSG. Our school device program enhances quality learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, providing students with a vast array of digital resources curated through our Learning Hub and access to course content and online experiences provided by our wonderful teachers.

Whether your child has had access to their own technology device for a while, or if it’s their very first device now is a fantastic opportunity to discuss technology use with your child and decide what is going to work for your family.

A school assigned device is provided to be used as part of your child’s study at home – there is no expectation from the school that they will be using this for hours on end. It is also a good idea to think about setting up a central area in your home where your child uses their devices, rather than in the bedroom. Creating a central area for charging devices overnight is also recommended. Also consider as a family when it is appropriate to introduce access to social media. The majority of platforms state that 13 is the minimum age to create an account, but some families decide that waiting a little bit longer is more appropriate. Also consider planning out time each day away from digital devices and passive screentime.

Tuesday 6 February was Safer Internet Day and this year’s message is Connect, Reflect, Protect.

Connect safely by ensuring that you are using reputable apps, avoiding sharing personal information where it’s not necessary, and reviewing your privacy settings.

Protect by ensuring that reputable anti-virus software is installed. All of our school assigned devices are configured with anti-virus and anti-malware software.

Reflect on the social media and AI tools that you use to interact with others. And reflect on how your actions online may affect your own safety or the safety of others.

P&F News

Welcome Back! Wishing you and your family a great 2025.

We have already laid out a big year for the P&F both in terms of social events and investments in enriching the school experience for the students.  We will share more about these as the year unfolds.

It was great to see many people taking advantage of the Day 1 of Term Coffee Van, it seems to be getting busier and busier.

Don’t forget Friday 14 February, is our annual Sundowner. It's one of the big events of the P&F calendar. I extend a warm welcome to new and existing families to attend and make new friends or rekindle older friendships. Similar to last year, the staff will kindly provide some child-minding facilities for this event. Look for the form to be completed to reserve your spot for this service.

I’d love to hear from you if you’d like to be involved with all that we have going on this year.  It can be as simple as being a volunteer at an event or being a year representative for your year group.  As always we are always looking for your input as to what activities or investments that we can undertake to enrich our school community.
