Panic attacks in children
In a recent edition of Generation Next there was an article about parents/caregivers can support children who have panic attacks.
The article provides valuable insights for parents on recognising and managing panic attacks in children. It explains that panic attacks can occur in children as young as five and are characterised by intense fear or discomfort, with symptoms like a racing heart, shortness of breath and light-headedness.
The article emphasises the importance of understanding these symptoms and differentiating them from other health issues. It also discusses potential triggers, such as anxiety-provoking situations or physical symptoms that become the focus of the child’s attention.
Parents are encouraged to stay calm, provide reassurance and seek professional help if needed. The goal is to help children recognize and manage their anxiety, preventing the escalation of panic attacks.

Exploring Identities and Futures
This year, all year 10 students at the school, are engaging in the Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) program as part of their SACE journey.
In Assessment Type 1: My Journey, My Future, students explore their identity, cultural background, values and character strengths through reflective and creative activities.
Throughout the unit, students develop emotion regulation strategies, boundary-setting techniques and resilience-building skills to support their personal growth. They also identify their strengths and set meaningful goals for the future, considering how their skills and connections can help them achieve their aspirations.
Students have been exploring their identities by creating artistic representations of their faces. Through this activity, they are reflecting on the aspects of their identity they choose to share, deepening their self-awareness and personal expression.
Students will showcase their learning in a personalised folio, using reflections, creative expressions and multimedia presentations. This week, they are creating artistic representations of their identities and reflecting on the aspects they choose to share.
We are excited to see their journeys unfold throughout the year.
