A great start to Year 6!

Our Year 6 students have returned from the summer holidays looking fresh-faced and ready for an exciting year ahead! They arrived on their first day with big smiles, catching up with friends and proudly wearing their Year 6 jumpers. With leadership opportunities, new learning challenges, and plenty of fun ahead, it's shaping up to be a fantastic final year of primary school!
In the first two weeks of school, all students at Highvale Primary participated in the Learn Explore Achieve Progress (LEAP) Start-Up Program. Through a range of getting-to-know-you activities, collaborative tasks, and wellbeing-focused sessions, students built connections, developed teamwork skills, and established a positive foundation for the year ahead.
In Literacy, our focus this term is on Narrative and Persuasive texts. Students will read and analyse a variety of examples before crafting their own pieces. Both classes will also be reading Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman, a powerful and engaging novel that will spark rich discussions and connections!
In Maths, students will be exploring a range of key concepts, including the Properties of Numbers, Decimals, Data Representation, and Perimeter and Area. They will develop their understanding of number properties and place value, refine their skills in working with decimals, and analyse different ways to collect and represent data.
This term, our students will be engaging in an Immigration Journeys Incursion, which ties into our Healthy, Happy Communities Thrive Concept focus. Through research and storytelling, they will explore the experiences of migrants, deepening their understanding of the challenges and contributions that shape thriving communities.
Additionally, Year 6 students will participate in Interschool Sports, representing Highvale in weekly matches. We look forward to seeing them develop their skills, build friendships, and enjoy the excitement of friendly competition. More information about this will come out soon.
We are thrilled to be working with such a fantastic group of Year 6 students this year. With so many exciting learning experiences, challenges, and opportunities ahead, we can’t wait to see them grow, support one another, and make the most of their final year at Highvale Primary!
