Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Last Friday we had such a special morning with all of our visitors to the campus. The morning began with a welcome and assembly in the shed, followed by some classroom activities. Our visitors even had the opportunity to watch some spelling lessons in action! Following this, our Grandparents and Special Friends headed to the old building for some morning tea and a catch up. The weather was beautiful, with lots of visitors joining the students in the yard at recess for a play. Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate the day, as well as those who brought along a plate for morning tea. It was very much appreciated!

Sustainability Shed Opening Ceremony
Yesterday the campus held a short ceremony for the official opening of our new Scotsburn Sustainability Shed. As we know, we were very lucky to receive contributions to the funding of the project from both the Community Bank Buninyong and the Buninyong/Mount Helen Lions Club. Representatives from both organisations were in attendance, with our Grade 6 students running the ceremony. They did a wonderful job! A small morning tea was held for our visitors following the ceremony.
Although Ms Middlin wasn’t able to be in attendance, she was able to share with everyone some of the STEM activities and uses for the shed, including housing 3-D printers, lazer cutters, circuit machines and woodworking materials and tools - how exciting!
Scholarship Celebration Evening
Congratulations to Amity, Anastasia and Flynn for their involvement in the Scholarship Celebration Evening on Monday night. Flynn had some amazing photos on display, and Ana and Amity cooked up a storm for the guests. Amity also had the opportunity to speak on behalf of the cooking program and did a wonderful job. In her role as the teacher for the Art Scholarship Program, Mrs Morgan also held an incredible Art Glow Show in the cottage. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the scholarships program for 2024.
There have been lots of Scotsburn students applying for scholarships in 2025, with us looking forward to the announcements of successful applicants in the coming weeks.
3/4 Wyuna Queenscliff Camp - Tomorrow!
Good luck to Albus, Lincoln, Darragh, Seth and Lachy, who head off on cam tomorrow, returning on Thursday. The weather looks to be quite hot, so make sure to pack your water bottles and sunscreen. We know you will all have an amazing time! Thank you also to Darragh’s mum Alison, who has jumped on to volunteer for the camp. Alison will be a great support for our boys over the two days.
SC1 Excursion to Melbourne Museum - Thursday 12th December
Next Thursday, Grade 1 and SC1 students will travel to Melbourne Museum to celebrate the end of a great year of learning. At the museum students will explore exhibitions related to topics explored throughout the year, including Minibeasts and Dinosaurs.
Students will need to be at the Buninyong Campus at 8:15am to ensure a timely departure. In order to maximise our time at the museum, buses will depart school at 8:30am sharp.
Scotsburn Sleepover - 12th - 13th December
Our whole campus sleepover is next week! This overnight event will foster team building, outdoor engagement, as well as create lasting memories for all children. Students will go home after school to gather their belongings and prepare for the sleepover. Students are then invited to return to school at 6pm. Pizza will be provided on the night along with breakfast, snacks, and lunch the following day. All activities will take place within the Scotsburn Campus.
Please see the on Compass to provide consent and payment. We will provide more information and details later this week to students and families, with a hard copy note to go home.
CFA Water Fight
This year our annual CFA fundraiser and water fight day will take place between 12 and 1pm on Friday 13th December (Scotsburn Campus Sleepover). We have been doing this for quite a few years now and it is one of the most exciting end of year events. We are very lucky to have the Buninyong CFA volunteers come along to have some seriously wet and fun times with our students!
Part of this special event is a way of saying ‘thank you’ to our local brigade and to acknowledge these volunteers for all their hard work and dedication. As in the past, we are asking all students to complete some chores around the house over the next few weeks to earn some pocket money that they can donate to the Buninyong CFA. There will be a sheet sent home this week with each student where they have the opportunity to list their chores and the amount they have raised. Every small donation helps so please take this opportunity to encourage your children to complete some special chores and dig deep for those who volunteer and help our community, especially over these coming hot months.
End of Year Scotsburn Christmas Celebration and Picnic
Monday 16th December - 2pm - 3:30pm
We are now getting very close to our end of year celebrations. If you didn’t receive information notes about our Christmas celebration, please check Compass and/or contact your child’s teacher. These notes have some very important information regarding the running of the event.
Just a reminder that Santa will be visiting, and we will need all of Santa’s helpers to assist us with this! Please see earlier Compass message if you are unsure on this process or please see a staff member if you need help in arranging for this to happen.
SC1 Learning Snapshot
It’s been an action packed week in SC1 with lots of learning as well as some special events!
Our P - 2 sports day was a lot of fun, with events including hurdles, relays, javelin and sack races. The students had an amazing day and these were the highlights from their activities.
Gracie was thrilled to earn a ribbon, while Elijah had a blast throwing the rockets (javelins). Fraser couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had doing “the sports bit.” Chelsea shined in the hurdles and was overjoyed to get a ribbon, just like Archie, who loved the bean bag race and was proud of his ribbon too. Nash’s favourite part was running and receiving a ribbon, and Lawson was especially proud to be the first to get his ribbon. Charlie was delighted with his “little ribbon,” and Maverick had a great time doing the hurdles and earning his ribbon. Florence enjoyed jumping and celebrating her ribbon, while Jimmy found throwing the javelin exciting and cherished his ribbon as well. Annie balanced her ribbon success with relaxing drink breaks, and Zelda embraced all the games, especially the hula hoops. Ella excelled in the hurdles and was proud of her ribbon, Scarlett had a fantastic time with the sack race and her ribbon, and Aelwen’s favourite moment was the toy relay game. It was a day full of fun, achievement, and proud smiles for everyone! Safe to say the ribbons were a hit.
We also had our Grandparents and Special Friends Day on Friday, and it was a huge success. The students were so proud to show off our amazing school and beautiful classroom, and we loved welcoming these special people to our campus. Grandparents and friends enjoyed conversation, afternoon tea, and engaging activities with the children. The smiles, laughter, and shared stories created lasting memories, making it a truly special celebration of the important people in our students’ lives. A huge thank you to everyone who came along or contributed to make this day so memorable.
SC2 Learning Snapshot
We are very rapidly approaching the end of the year, which is always filled with a wide range of emotions! In SC2 this week, we continue to have lots happening, including some Scotsburn Concert preparation, Grade 6 Graduation practise and student report comment completion. Our Grade 5s are also putting their finishing touches on their 2025 leadership application letters. As part of this process, students will be involved next week in an interview process, which will be a great experience for the students. The applications that have come in so far are well structured and considered.
In Maths this week, we have been completing some revision work looking at some themes that we need to revisit, including converting units of measurement, area and perimeter and 2-digit multiplication. We are then applying this learning to a problem solving task, where students need to find clues to solve a mystery.
Good luck also to Rhylee today who has her orientation day. I am sure you will return full of excitement and confidence for 2025. The rest of our Grade 6 girls will have their orientation days next Tuesday 10th December.
We look forward to lots of fun and excitement over the next few weeks - please make sure to keep an eye on Compass and the newsletter to stay on top of all the information coming out. We can’t wait for what is ahead of us!

Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
