From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Week 9. Our assessment weeks for our students and teachers have just come to a close. In the remaining three weeks our teachers will be finalising the Semester 2 reports and these reports will be posted this Friday, 6th December.

We have been extremely pleased with the progress we have seen in so many of our students. Last week the leadership team met with every teacher across the generalist classrooms to look at the results of each classroom and where we are seeing the strengths and also the areas for improvement. For those students we see requiring further support in 2025 we look to place them in intervention supports. These intervention supports are effective but do rely on the students attending school regularly.

Energy Breakthrough 2024

In Week 7 saw our Energy Breakthrough team compete in Maryborough. It was our best performance by our team in the race, since entering the event in 2018. Our Delacombe Express team (No 1) completed 260 laps (4 more than our best result from last year) which is 410.8 km and our number 1 team came in 17th position in the racing component which improved our position on 24th from last year. Our Delacombe Express team (No 2) completed 221 laps which is 349.18 and came in at 46th position.  Our Delacombe Express team (No 3) completed 212 laps which is 334.96 and came in at 53rd position.  There were some terrific individual efforts by some of the students in some very hot and warm conditions and they were terrific in the way they supported and encouraged each other.

A huge thank you to Mr Zerafa, Mrs Jones and Phil McGrath who were the main organisers of the team. Thank you also to those parents who assisted over the three days Brayden Shankar, the Nichols family, the Neil family, the Wright family, Rebecca Govan and Kara Parker. We would also like to thank all our sponsors who supported the team and made the event happen.

Student Leadership 2025

Our next set of school leadership positions will be considered over the next two weeks.  These positions will consist of the House Captain speeches on Wednesday 11th December. These speeches are completed in front of their houses and are voted by the students and staff in that house.

Staff who are key members of the student leadership area will have a strong say in who is allocated a position for 2025 based on their past interest and support in that area.

Student leadership badges will be presented at the final assembly for the year on Wednesday 18th December in the Stadium starting at 2.20pm.

Orientation Day and Meet the Teacher Day

On Tuesday 10th December is our Orientation Day (9.00 - 12.30pm) for our Prep students in 2025. It is also our “Meet the teacher” morning for Grade 1s to Grade 6 students. They will be informed of their classrooms at 9.00am by their current classroom teacher and then move to their new classrooms at 10.00am. We have almost finalised our staffing for 2025 and will release the list of staff in the next newsletter. Below is a list of the rooms and where we have placed all 29 classrooms for 2025.

PICNIC DAY - Wednesday 18th December

Below is a list of activities that will occur at the school on Picnic Day. This will occur at the school and commence at 11:30am and wrap up around 1:15pm. The cafe will be open for parents.

Volunteers Morning Tea - Monday 16th December

We invite any of our volunteers from the school community to school on Monday 16th December from 11-11:30am for morning tea in the Kitchen.

How we encourage our students to manage student issues?

Our process for our students to be supported at school if there are issues follows the process outlined below.

There is a process for parents to follow in regards to student issues they may have.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Thank you for supporting the summer school uniform.  We have had very few students we have had to follow up with about hats and wearing them. This has made life easier, particularly when the sun has been out more than we have been used to.

We have noticed that an increase in the number of bike shorts and low cut shorts has been worn and staff are following up students who are wearing them and informing them of the correct uniform.
