Auslan
(Michelle Rees) | In Term 1, students will continue to develop their understanding of Auslan. We will consolidate our understanding of deaf culture and look more closely at the five parameters of Auslan (handshape, orientation, location, movement and non-manual features). The topics we will cover this term include school signs, fingerspelling, family names and Easter. We will be using our previous knowledge of signs covered within these topics to create full sentences as we practice signing and holding a conversation in Auslan with our peers. Every lesson will be very hands-on involving lots of games, songs and role-play. We will celebrate the school values of Kindness, Respect, Aspiration and Grit as we acknowledge our achievements as well as those of our peers. |
Performing Arts
(Peter Humphreys) | This term, students will immerse themselves in the exciting world of drama and music, building confidence, creativity, and teamwork along the way. In drama, the focus will be on dialogue, explored through both scripted scenes and improvisation. Students will take part in engaging games and imaginative challenges designed to boost their confidence as they think on their feet and bring dramatic scenarios to life. In music, students will dive into beat and rhythm, discovering patterns as they read and create their own graphic notation. They’ll explore pitch and melody through singing and playing classroom instruments, developing a deeper understanding of musical expression. Movement will also play a key role, with students responding to music through dance—both by learning choreography and creating their own unique moves. Above all, our goal is for students to experience the joy of performing arts in a fun, dynamic, and supportive environment while fostering creativity, collaboration, and a love for self-expression! |
Visual Arts
(Grace Tyrrell) | In Term 1, students will begin by revising the art elements and principles, as well as colour theory. The main focus this term will be centred around the artworks of American artist ‘Jen Stark’, as well as the picture story book ‘Pete the Cat: Robo-Pete’ whereby students will explore ‘steampunk’ art. Students will develop their skills in a range of art forms including drawing, painting, modelling, and printmaking. Some artworks students will create include a warm or cool colour scheme drip for the whole school mural inspired by Jen Stark, as well as a clay robot. In addition to this, students will be given multiple opportunities to discuss and appreciate their own and other people’s work. |
