Settling in

These past two weeks, the 3/4s have begun to adjust to our mainstream learning schedule. Many of our students have been expressing their eagerness and enthusiasm for their learning, keep up the great work!

House Colours Celebration

As a way to celebrate the first two weeks of the year, all 3/4 students participated in a round robin of activities. Groups were organised by house colour so students had an opportunity to have fun with people from other classes.

Reading

An exciting start to reading as we dive into our class novel Matilda. As we read, we’ve been searching for examples of figurative language; similes, metaphors, alliteration. We’ve also been expanding our vocabulary by learning new words; mild, pleasant, witty. Students have loved going through each chapter and being introduced to new characters.

Writing

This past fortnight, the 3/4s have been exploring different sentence types and learning how to construct simple, compound and complex sentences. Students have also been forming their own narrative stories following the prompt “Eureka, I’ve finally got it!” This week we focused on writing the resolution and conclusion of our stories.

Maths

We’ve started off the year with investigating the topic of Place Value. Students have been reviewing the value of base-10 blocks, as well as learning how to rename a number and record its expanded form.

Discovery

Our big question for this term in inquiry is “Who makes the rules and decisions around here?” To kickstart our investigation, the 3/4s have been creating their own games while considering how to make their rules safe, fair and inclusive. The 3/4s have also begun researching different volunteer groups to see how they support their community.
