Child Safety,  Responding and Reporting Obligations and Our Child Safe Code of Conduct

Child safety and wellbeing at Pascoe Vale North information for families and the school community

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Pascoe Vale North Primary North's Child Safety policies and procedures ensure we meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on our website: https://www.pvnps.vic.edu.au  , on COMPASS under the Community Tab/School Documentation and you can request a copy  at the school’s front office.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact Deborah Crane.

Yard Duty And Supervision

Student safety at Pascoe Vale North is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised from 8:45 - 9:00.  Our soft start bell will sound at 8:50 indicating all students to enter their classrooms.

After school: School grounds are supervised from 3:15 - 3:30, at which point any students not collected will be take to the office to await family pickup.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care.

Families are encouraged to contact:  www.theircare.com.au  for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community.

For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy please contact our school office.

Dog Policy

PVNPS has a no Dog Policy. This is common practice for all government schools. This is to ensure the safety of all students and families for unforeseen circumstances.

There are a few exemptions to this policy being if a dog is required for an assistance dog.

We have also provided in the policy the possibility of getting a therapy dog at our school to further support our wellbeing program and that of students.

There is research around how a ' dog' makes students feel calmer and allows them to forgot any anxieties at times. Therefore, if we are able to provide this resource and strategy to further support students within their learning environment we will.

If you have any feedback on this policy, please don’t hesitate to contact me via phone or email. If you would like a hard copy, please ask at the office.
