Over the past fortnight, I have been reminded of how deeply the value of caring is woven into the heart of our College community. Whether through service, reflection, or celebration, our students continue to demonstrate that caring is not just a feeling, it is something we live out through compassion, connection, and action.
On Tuesday, 21 October, we welcomed visitors to our College Tour, offering members of the wider community the opportunity to experience our wonderful College. It was heartwarming to see our Student Leaders assist with the tour, proudly representing Good News and showing genuine care and hospitality to our guests. Their maturity and warmth reflected beautifully the values we strive to uphold.

The following day, on Wednesday, 22 October, our Year 9 students proudly showcased their Community Projects, the culmination of their year-long journey as part of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). Parents were invited to see the thoughtful and creative ways students have responded to issues that matter to them and to the community.
Each project reflected empathy, passion, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Congratulations to all our Year 9s on completing their final MYP project, a true celebration of learning and caring in action.

On Thursday, 23 October, I had the privilege of attending the Gravitate Graduation, Class of 2025 with two of our Year 11 students, Magdalena Sladecek and Alexandria Enriquez, along with Miss Deborah Stockman.
This event celebrated the students’ achievement in completing their Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology. It was a joyful occasion and a milestone for our College, marking the first year we have offered this program.
Seeing our students celebrated for their commitment to faith, service, and leadership was inspiring. This has been a wonderful addition to our curriculum and one we look forward to continuing in the years ahead.

That same week, our Year 10 and Year 11 students participated in their Retreat Days — opportunities to pause, reflect, and connect with one another. The Year 10 retreat, “Rest, Reset, Rise”, held at Altona Beach, encouraged students to reflect on wellbeing and renewal as they prepare for VCE.
Meanwhile, the Year 11 retreat, “Thrills and Togetherness”, at Funfields, focused on building relationships, teamwork, and joy. Both retreats provided valuable moments for students to care for themselves and each other, strengthening their sense of community and belonging.
As we continue through this term, may we be reminded of the words from 1 Peter 4:10:
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
At Good News, caring is more than kindness, it’s how we serve, support, and walk alongside one another in faith and love.

To mark the end of a busy and productive year, the Year 11 cohort enjoyed a well-deserved day of fun and celebration at Funfields Theme Park. The excursion provided students with an opportunity to relax, connect, and reflect on their achievements before soon stepping into their final year of schooling.
The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and plenty of excitement as students took on water slides, thrill rides, and shared moments of fun with friends and teachers. Beyond the rides, the day highlighted the importance of balance and wellbeing, reminding students that taking time to recharge is just as valuable as their academic success.
The excursion also played a key role in strengthening relationships—both among students and between staff and students. These positive connections are essential as the cohort prepares for the challenges and opportunities of Year 12.
A huge thank you to the Year 11 teachers who ensured the day ran smoothly and safely. It was a wonderful celebration of the students’ hard work, growth, and resilience throughout the year.

This week the Year 8 and Year 10 Geography students have headed out in the field to conduct some necessary fieldwork for their final assessments this term. The Year 10 Geography class enjoyed a splendid day out of the classroom so they could investigate environmental change and management along the Werribee River from Riverbend Historical Park to Werribee River Park. Students noted the different land uses along this section of the river, and identified various management strategies that have been implemented.
