Little Learners Love Literacy in Prep and Year 1
Our Prep and Year 1 students are making wonderful progress through the Little Learners Love Literacy phonics program! Each week, students are introduced to a new grapheme (letter or letters) that represents a particular phoneme (sound). Through explicit and sequential lessons, they learn to recognise, say, read and write these sounds in engaging and playful ways.
Each sound is paired with a ‘Chitter Chatter Chant’, helping children connect sounds to words and build strong oral language skills in a fun and memorable way. Students then apply their learning by reading decodable books that match the sounds they know, supporting their journey toward becoming confident and fluent readers.
This week, our Prep students explored the long /a/ phoneme, represented by the ai grapheme, as in snail and the ay grapheme as in play. Our Year 1 students have been investigating the /oo/ phoneme, represented by the graphemes ue as in true and u-e as in rude.
Why not ask your child to share one of the Chitter Chatter Chants they’ve been learning this week?
