Welcome to Term 4!!

Empowering Young Writers and Swimmers at Salvado Catholic College

At Salvado Catholic College, we are committed to nurturing confident, capable, and well-rounded learners. Two programs currently making a significant impact in our Junior School are the Talk for Writing initiative and our swimming lessons at the Armadale Aquatic Centre.

Talk for Writing: Building Confident Communicators

The Talk for Writing program continues to inspire our students to become thoughtful and expressive writers. Through its structured stages—Imitation, Innovation, and Invention—students learn to internalise language patterns, build rich vocabulary, and develop their own creative voice.

Teachers have observed:

  • Improved sentence fluency and structure

  • Greater confidence in planning and editing

  • Increased enjoyment and engagement in writing tasks

This approach not only strengthens literacy skills but also supports oral language development, collaboration, and critical thinking—skills that benefit students across all learning areas.

Making a Splash: Junior School Swimming Lessons

Our Junior School students have enjoyed their weekly swimming lessons at the Armadale Aquatic Centre. The feedback from students has been fantastic! These sessions are more than just fun—they’re an essential part of our commitment to student wellbeing and safety.

Learning to swim is a vital life skill, especially in Australia where water-based activities are part of our lifestyle. Through these lessons, students are:

  • Building water safety awareness

  • Improving physical fitness and coordination

  • Developing resilience and confidence

  • Having fun and strengthening friendships

The program caters to all skill levels, ensuring every child feels supported and encouraged. It’s wonderful to see students growing in confidence both in and out of the water.

Mrs Christine Pitman
