Spotlight on Learning - Turtle

This term in English, students have been exploring poetry through the book The Brothers Quibble. Focusing on one of the main characters, they wrote their own haikus following the 5–7–5 syllable pattern. We were so impressed with their creativity, as they used just a few words to capture the character’s feelings and personality. The Turtle Pod should feel very proud of the thoughtful and imaginative poems they produced!

Building on this focus on character and personality, in Visual Arts, students explored how creative choices such as facial expressions, texture, and colour can convey different traits and emotions. They studied a variety of artworks and closely observed their own features before experimenting with media and mark-making techniques to create self-portraits.

In Science, the Turtle Pod investigated how light and sound travel through different materials and how shadows are formed. To bring their learning to life, they created shadow puppet role-plays, performing imaginative under-the-sea shows. The students thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with light and shadows, demonstrating fantastic teamwork and creativity throughout.
