French News

Bonjour, dear parents and students!
Over the past two weeks, our students have been doing some wonderful work in French, and we are so proud of them!
Here is a snapshot of what each year level has been working on in Week 1 and Week 2:
Prep:
We revisited the days of the week and practised how to write them on our whiteboards and independently on our worksheets. Students also reviewed numbers 1 to 10, practised counting, and completed a number recognition worksheet through drawing, colouring, and tracing the numbers.
Grade 1:
Students learnt about body parts and identified them by pointing to each one while singing the French version of “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.” It was great fun dancing and learning at the same time! We then introduced the phrase “J’ai” (I have) to help students write simple sentences about the same body parts, reinforcing their vocabulary and sentence structure.
Grade 2:
Students interviewed their classmates about their favourite food through a simple survey. They learnt how to ask and answer questions on the topic and how to create a tally chart to record the results. The following week, the focus remained on interviews, with students practising how to ask their friends questions and record information such as name, age, pets, and address.
Grade 3:
Students learnt about prepositions of location and really enjoyed the lesson - especially the independent activity where they had to find the mouse and write the correct preposition in French. We then built on this by introducing more prepositions, and students practised describing locations using full sentences with the right prepositions.
Grade 4:
Students learnt how to exchange greetings and wishes in French with their partners and practised translating them before completing a related worksheet activity. They then moved on to describing the weather in French and used their new vocabulary to write a short paragraph about the weather in a French-speaking country.
Grade 5 and 6:
Students learnt two more irregular verbs - to do and to go. They practised conjugating them on their whiteboards first, then completed their worksheets independently with great success. They were then introduced to a new verb tense in French - the futur proche - and used a pair share activity to go through the steps needed to form this tense, before applying their understanding in independent practice.
If you would like to do some revision at home with your children, please feel free to use the resources provided above. For our lovely Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students, we have also included some songs below to help support memory retention.
A big bravo to all our wonderful students – we’re incredibly proud of you, and we’re looking forward to a term filled with learning and fun!
Warm regards,
Madame Ma, Mr Zach, Mr Martins, and Miss Martine.
